Nonsense. You start the players at every position who give you the best chance to win. That should have nothing to do with how many stars they earn as recruits. It should have everything to do with how well they are performing as members of the team currently. Marcus Liberty was our most hyped recruit ever. He didn't start for the 88-89 Illini team because there were better players ahead of him, and rightly so. Nothing should be different now. Five start players should not expect guarantees. They should expect a fair chance to earn the right to start.
You're sure right about Liberty. Maybe the most hyped recruit we've ever had. He was rated the best h.s. player in the nation by some publications.

I'm old, and maybe my memory is fading, but I recall Moses Malone being a "none and done"... that he signed right out of high school with an ABA team.
Yep. The ABA's Utah Stars. Bill Willoughby, out of NJ, was the first to go directly to the NBA (Rockets) IIRC, in the late '70s. My high school asst coach in Ohio coached him.

Is that the most likely one outside of Illinois?

I honestly don't see what they have to sell over us...outside of maybe history of doing well with Canadian talent...?

He's got more chance to start here than there and that's pretty much a surety.

Maybe NIL? But pretty sure I read somewhere (I think CBS) that they've ran into a crunch $$ wise after getting Caleb Love back...and that's what led to those top 50 guys leaving...

But also saw somewhere that it was because they wanted to start...

Who knows...

Just really want him here...
Whatever led you to think we were the favorite? If you look at what most observers say, Arkansas, Alabama, Arizona, Kentucky, and NBL are the favorites. We frequently aren't even listed. And we don't even know if he'll reclassify.

Bring back CHOCOLATE THUNDER !!!
Darryl and Moses: RIP. Gone way too soon. And died two weeks apart.

Here's 18 y.o. Moses for the Utah Stars v. the San Diego Conquistadores in the Salt Palace at the outset of his rookie season, 1974. I was in third grade and got one of those fabulous RW&B balls for Xmas that year or the following one.

Moses was an absolute beast. There have been a lot of great NBA big men and he belongs in the same category as Jabaar, Olajuwon, Russell, Wilt, Shaq.

I never said we were the favorite.

And Illinois is never "listed" because he put out a "final five" announcement about a month or 2 ago and it was those five schools/leagues - not Illinois - that were on it.

But the thing is: things have changed - a lot has changed (Orlando). We're gonna getting him on campus.

He just hasn't expanded his list - but that doesn't mean a thing (kinda like that we're hidden from all the smoke) - the staff's greatly in pursuit.

You don't see Riley playing ahead of Tre or Ty or Ben? Lol.. If Riley comes here he is a starter the moment he steps foot on campus
