A lineup of Kasparas Jakucionis, Dre Gibbs-Lawhorn, Ty Rodgers, Morez Johnson Jr, and Tomislav Ivisic would have 23 out of 26 letters of the alphabet, which is sick
Who else immediately thought, "OK, who can we get and then sub in in garbage time to complete the alphabet?"
And yes, you can consider this a challenge.

So is KJ a shooting guard or a point guard? I just assumed he was a PG after seeing his gaudy assist numbers recently, but it appears he is listed as a shooting guard prospect. Do people think Boswell will have the ball in his hands more than KJ?
He is a shooting guard with point guard skills. We’ve had a few like this over the years Dee Brown and Richard Keene come to mind off the top of my head

This guy writes some decent articles and I’ll often read his stuff after tough losses. But does this dude actually think that Ty Rodgers is still our PG and that KJ will come off the bench? Come on Woodcock

Jaylen wells staying in the draft. Are we looking at any of the players who are going to withdraw from the NBA draft as the adds or the people we are looking to add from other places?

Combo guard.

He is a PG, through and through. We are just going to be playing PGs at the 1 and 2 spots. Nothing wrong with that.

Sorry friend, you are alone on this one. Rees Woodcock has never written a decent article.

Few good teams have 9 or 10 player rotations (see article below).
Last year's squad had six guys playing >20 min, typical for Underwoods teams. A couple of guys get 10 to 15 minutes.
So that's an eight man rotation. who on this squad gets them?
boswell and humrichous get 30 minutes each.
ivisch gets 25 because he's the only seven footer - but he may foul a lot, so maybe he only gets 20?
Ty gets 20 unless he magically develops a jump shot - then he has to get closer to 25-30.
So that means two guys from the KJ, Booth, Morez, DGL and White category get 20 minutes.
KJ has to get at least 15 - probably 20.
Morez gets 15.
So Booth, DGL and White get 10 minutes or less? that seems crazy.
I don't see how Davis sees the floor.
I think this will be a pretty good team. There will be serious competition for minutes.

Getting way to far ahead of yourself trying to divy up minutes this far in advance. Tons of stuff can happen like injuries or certain guys just being inefficitive and losing minutes. This can ebb and flow throughout the entire season.

All that being said, I wouldn't necessarily be surprised to see no Illini player average 30+ mins this year and I don't think that's a bad thing since you can get maximum defensive effort for longer. There were games where you could tell Marcus, Terrence, and Coleman were absolutely gassed late in the game.

Just to humor you:
Boswell - 27 mins, DGL - 15 mins
KJ - 27 mins, Davis - 8 mins
Ty - 23 mins, Tre - 20 mins
Hum - 25 mins, Booth - 15 mins
Ivisic - 22 mins, Morez - 18 mins. 7 footers don't tend to play a ton of minutes and you could basically platoon these 2.

Those would be very ballpark numbers that you could likely give and take from but also wouldn't be super different from what we've seen a ton of good teams do(Leonard Hamilton's teams come to mind). I expect there to be games where Davis doesn't play, DGL might look more like Harmon's role(18 mins), and could also see Booth eat into some of those Morez mins.

Also you can't really even compare to older teams because the Portal allows teams to be way deeper and more talented than they used to be because of the way programs can plug holes without relying on freshman or bench guys to develop. Naturally, it used to be far more difficult to get 9-10 guys capable of making positive contributions.

Does anyone have a good idea of the defensive capabilities for many of these additions? Any of them known for their defensive work?

I hear all about the shooting, passing, court vision, and I'm excited about the offense next year with 10 capable rotation players that Brad should trust, but am curious what the defensive strategy will look like.
I think Booth has an extremely high defensive ceiling like potentially a better version of Coleman on defense. Very fluid athlete, with extremely long arms, and a better jumper than Coleman allowing Booth to protect the rim far better.

Tre White has very good size, strength, and athleticism on the wing. Him and Ty paired together could potentially cause some nightmares for opposing offensives with their length and quickness allowing to cover smaller guards.

Ivisic doesn't seem super explosive but he looks to move fairly well and is 7'1 so he should be able to provide rim protection that we lacked the last two years. Would love to see him get to campus soon and work with Fletch.

I think a lineup of KJ, DGL, Tre, Ty, and Booth could potentially be a very fun defensive lineup.

Just to continue a thought expressed previously but not fully addressed or grasped by most of us, I have some concern and will not feel comfortable until KJ and TI get approved to play by the NCAA clearing house. are on campus, and take the court for an official game. We have had problems in that regard previously and I think my concern is legit. Let's hope so.

Would appreciate it if someone who knows can expound on the subject, like and insider.

Good to know that the loyalty board collectively hates Rees Woodcock articles haha. Don’t really care- I’m entertained by some of the stuff he puts out
