It would be REALLY nice to bring a huge contingent to MSG vs. Duke. A nationally televised game on FOX vs. a Blue Blood where there is orange everywhere in the crowd of a building commentators regularly call "Cameron North"?? Yes, please. That would go a long way to regaining the national respect/hype our fan base deserves, as it really should be talked about in the same breath as Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, etc .... and it is not. However, it WAS circa 2006, so we have been in the process of gaining that respect back, and we have come a long way.

Both teams *should* be playing their best ball at that point, should make for a great game. Dukes gonna be TOUGH
I think they will have the best player in the country.

We will be able to rotate some very athletic bigs on him

Morez 6'9 220 lb
Cary 6'10" 203 lb
Tomas 7'1 230 lb

He is is not 7'4". I like our chances.

Seven Duke basketball players departed the program after the 2023-24 season ended. With the six esteemed freshmen and aforementioned transfers incoming, it’s easy to see why the former Blue Devils sought more playing time elsewhere. The only question left is where they would find it. Longtime starter Jeremy Roach, who helped guide the team to the Final Four in 2022 before serving as a senior captain during this season’s run to the Elite Eight, left for Baylor. Mark Mitchell, who started both as a freshman and as a sophomore, headed for the SEC and Missouri.

Incoming transfers to Duke
Sion James Tulane 14 ppg JR
Mason Gillis Purdue 6 ppg SR
Maliq Brown Syracuse 10 ppg 7 rbg JR
Cameron Sheffield Rice 8 ppg SR

They seem like one of the few teams that can match our positional size. Will likely throw several bodies at Flagg. Guessing Ty and Tre get first crack. Maybe Booth gets a chance too. Should be a fun matchup.

Tomas is not very athletic at all. He is tall and a skilled shooter and passer.

Morez and Booth completely different story. Both are very athletic.

We certainly have a lot of talent. Duke has way more.

Wonder if that will be a prime time game
You sure have to think that's on the short list for consideration for Fox's usual Saturday night basketball featured game. I tried to find some of the other Big Ten and Big East games on Saturday, and I didn't see any games that would be close to general appeal.

He’s a walking double digit NBA scorer right now. Rez and Big T don’t guard guys like him because he’s a not a big. Unless we’re letting him get 40 and shutting everyone else down, Booth’s height/length/athleticism combo is our best bet in theory, but we don’t even know what his role will be, minutes wise, on this team.

Tre and Ty, who I assume are gonna get their cracks at him, are too small in all likelihood. But they’re better options than Rez and Big T.

Its a defensive matchup where Coleman would have excelled.

I don’t agree with you on your way more comment!!! We have two five star players and one who should have been a five star in Morez.

I'm surprised we're that high as well. Not sure we'll be rising much. but I don't see many teams behind us catching us either
Yeah, after taking another look, I think you're right. Looks like we're more or less locked in to that spot for the foreseeable future.

I had to take a look back to see who I was forgetting because in my lifetime at least, Illinois has never been a consistent producer of high caliber pros. I think this explains it:

Illinois players have made 17 NBA All Star appearances. Deron Williams made 3. The other 14 happened before 1968.

So we play Duke with maybe the most hyped college freshmen since Durant(?) and Rutgers with the 2nd and 3rd best, oh and I forgot to mention Duke has the 4th best prospect. So we play the top 4 college freshmen this year, should be fun to see how we match up. Great measuring stick for Will and Kasparas hopes of being lottery picks.
