I’m as excited for Will Riley as anyone. I think he’s learned how to adjust for those 2 concerns, but if we’re honest with ourselves, despite his incredible talent, one, if not both of those, are legit concerns.

Objectively, he shoots a slow, windup shot, and he is a skinny player, playing in a strong player league.

I do disagree with how they kind of made fun that we don’t have him in lifting a lot of weights atm because Fletch wants to increase his mobility. That shows a lack of knowledge on their part. The general progression for building an athlete up is mobility—>stability—>strength—>power. You wanna reduce injury risk, gotta trust the process.
Exactly what my physical therapist says.

I think many on here are too young to remember Kareem in the 70s before he got lazy. Rebounding, shot-blocking, and (of course) scoring machine.

The most athletic and agile 7-footer I can think of is Garnett. But how about pre-injuries Ralph Sampson?

Whenever I hear Will Riley's name said by some analyst...I immediately hear the O'Reilly Auto parts theme song. But now it's turning into Will Rilllleyyy - auto points. I may be going insane and need the season to start.

Anyone else? Nope. Ok I'll see myself out

I love how much we are flying under the national radar...............................................for now.
Being viewed as a 7th seed, trending upwards, after only retaining 14% of last year's minutes is flying under the radar? The average fan couldn't tell you more than three players off of our roster. Honestly, we don't even know how good we're going to be. Having better than a 7 seed would be one heck of a season given what we lost.

Isn't that fact that the avg fan has no clue who is on our roster kind of like flying under the radar? Pundits picking us middle of conference. Most Nationals not ranking us preseason and a seven seed to me is out of top 25. ....I just thought we may be flying under the radar. Just my opinion man. Thats all.

While I agree with you that a preseason 7th seed trending up is nothing to be upset about, if we finish the regular season as the 29th thru 32nd best team in the country I would be upset. Especially with 2 of the top 20 NBA mock draft projections

This may be the finest University of Illinois basketball team of all times. The 2004 and 2005 team only lost two games that year, hopefully we’re right with that great team.

Seven seed is laughable, an absolute joke.

That would be an 8 seed. A 7 seed would be 25th-28th.

Wouldn't be the most excited with that but this years team was hovering between 10-15 all year and finished strong. I wouldn't be upset about a young team that starts to figure it out later in the season gets a 7 seed and goes on a run.

I would like to see Morez and Booth playing together. I believe in certain situations they would be a nightmare for the other team

I also believe that do to nature of their practices going up against each other that you will see a more aggressive Booth

Best team of all time? I'm guessing you never saw the flyin' Illini of '88-'89.

I haven’t seen any discussion here of Carey Booth claiming TSJ’s number 0 even though it will be hanging in the rafters with “Shannon” on it.

Like the Sleepers guys said, this is nothing new. Plummer wore #11 right after Ayo left. Sencire wore #1 after Frazier left. I’m sure there are more examples in the past and there’s plenty of guys in the rafters with the same number. This is a big nothing burger for me.

are any of those jersey numbers hanging in SFC officially "retired" ?
