I will admit that there are plenty of people on here that watch games more closely than me, and I don’t go back and watch multiple replays of games. And it’s not that I’m down on DGL and I hope we’ll see improvement in him that isn’t uncommon to see in sophomores. But I really don’t understand all the unbridled optimism regarding DGL for this season. I just never saw much from him other than in “scrub” games that indicates to me a big jump this year.
The tweet says he showed “flashes of playmaking & scoring.” Now I understand he didn’t play a lot in the way of minutes, but he only made more than one basket in 5 games — EIU, WIU, Southern, FDU and Morehead. Granted one of those games was in tourney, but none of those teams is going to be confused with a BIG team and the average margin of victory in those 5 games was 27 points. As for playmaking, I know given his often limited minutes he might not be expected to put up much in the way of assists, but he only had any in 7 games and more than one in two of the fore mentioned scrub games.
Now maybe he’s made great strides during off season, and I’m not saying he won’t be improved. I just wish I saw what it seems like so many people saw last year. But hey, what do I know. I thought RJ was going to take off and he didn’t. Well, until he literally took off and transferred.
I’ll start the season with Jakucionis, Boswell, Rodgers, Humrichous, Ivisic.
Ivisic and Morez will be a nice combo with their different skill sets. Ivisic opens up the court with his three point ability and his positional size helps defensively. Morez is a rebounder and rim runner. They will both play a lot.
