2024 Summer Olympics

Swimming comes to an end...

IMO Torri Huske might've been the biggest star for the US. She was incredible. We of course know about Ledecky in the 800 and 1500. A little disappointing for Dressel.

Biggest superstars of the week though were clearly Marcahand and McIntosh.

Just have a feeling those two will be dominating the 400IM for years to come...I mean DOMINATING...

Noah Lyles wins gold in the men's 100 meter dash. First American to win the race since Justin Gatlin in 2004. .005 seconds separated gold and silver.
Kinda interesting that in swimming if a race is tied into the hundredths, they rule it a tie for the spot...in this case would've been tied for gold...they don't even look at the thousandths.

The announcers literally called that the Jamaican dude had won it. Kinda feel for him. Happy for Noah.

Honestly, watching it live, I can see why Leigh Diffey (the NBC Olympics track PBP announcer) would think that the Jamaican won it. It looked like Lyles got the silver. That's why they had to go to the photo finish which showed Lyles won.

As far as the timing differences between swimming and track, the commentators made it seem as if track has gone to thousandths for decades. I can see why it would be easier in track than swimming to measure time that low.

Yes, watching the race live I thought Jamaican won. But that's why there's photo-finish technology, I guess.. There seemed to be some confusion, uncertainty on NBC's part; took forever to post official results. Understandable.

Women's skeet shooting this morning was great. But English woman got robbed. Officials said she missed a shot when replay clearly showed a fragment of orange pigeon flying off. That's a hit, in my book.

Great morning watching American Faulkner peeling off and blowing away everybody in cycling road race for gold. Great drone shots of Paris, France, too. Great scenery, great television, I thought. (I've only been to Paris and Marseilles, IL.)

And U.S. beat Australia in the swim meet!

Summer McIntosh has star potential beyond the sport - great talent, tough competitor, attractive, very poised. Hard to believe she is just 17

NBC is somewhat beholden to the Olympic Broadcasting Services in terms of posting the official results. Can't do much about that.

China won the gold medal in the men's 4x100 meter medley relay in swimming earlier today, defeating the U.S. who finished with the silver. It is the first time (aside from the boycotted 1980 Olympics) that the U.S. has not won the gold medal in the relay since it was added to the swimming competition in 1960.

Pan Zhanle - we quite really might not see another Olympic 100 free like that again. 1 full second victory, 1 full body length, smashing his own WR by 4 tenths...and then what he did in that relay coming back?

He swam the 200 free and 200 free relay...I think he's better suited for the 50 free than that tbh...was first to the wall...

There's all these...unproven...doping allegations going around on him...true or false, it's the environment his country has created on its swimming athletes. Nevertheless, what a week for him!

I find it interesting that in these new mixed events the track order is preordained MFMF but in swimming the teams can choose their order. Maybe related to controlling the baton handoffs better?
