2024 Summer Olympics

Scary moment in the men's steeplechase final earlier today:

The Ethiopian runner was stretchered off the track after the fall but reports are that he was conscious, able to speak to others, and is recovering in the hospital.
Even though I don’t like seeing things like this, I watched the replay.

What really struck me was how somber and reserved NBC announcer Leigh Diffey was. He’s an experienced motor sports announcer and has undoubtedly seen his share of terrible racing accidents. For him to be that measured for a track and field event made it clear this wasn’t a normal type of fall.

I just don't know. I think I'm in the running for a gold medal because I was probably the first to laugh out loud right away right out of the blocks upon learning break-dancing is an Olympic event. Ranks right up there with BMX and skateboarding.

My new Olympic sport: 3-meter tv remote control channel changing (from a recliner) to any Andy Griffith Show episode. I'm expert. Gold medal barber: Floyd (Howard McNear). Got to get me a Pink Floyd shirt one of these days.

In interview on NBC with Mike T he ended it with ILL when talking to Poulter in an interview
Given Tirico lives in Ann Arbor, he probably enjoyed having a little Big Ten banter.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone set the world record in the 400m hurdles, smoking the field by a second and a half. For me, the single most dominating performance of these Olympics given she did have Femke Bol (who finished third) as a fellow world champion in the field. Admittedly, Bol’s championship was when SM-L was injured in 2022.

no. 2023.

The most dominating performance for the last several years has always been and will always be (until she slows down - guess it is inevitable at the very end) Ledecky in the 1500 IMO...but Sydney is terrific...

the fact that she has set the WR six times in the last 3 years is just remarkable. Greatest of all time in that event

I’m giving the edge to McLaughlin-Levrone for the 2024 Olympics because Ledecky really didn’t have a big rival in the 1500. She was expected to dominate the field and didn’t have someone like Titmus in the 1500 field. If anything, Ledecky’s 800m win was more impressive because she was initially pushed in that event.

For the 400m hurdles, there was a major rival. Bol was a former champion and also had that big moment in the mixed 4x400 replay. And McLaughlin dominated.

Out of the 12 players on the team 8 of them played in the big ten, 3 have a home town in Illinois. Today's games is the first I have watched this year and Poulter had a great all around game, a few key serves also when we need it. Announcers spoke well of her too.

Echoing this.

Leigh is awesome, btw. It's a shame that IndyCar is moving to Fox next year; I'll miss him calling those races.

Mallory Swanson scores for the USA team at 57’, taking the lead 1-0. Now game is in the 75th minute still 1-0.
