2024 Summer Olympics

I didn’t watch a tremendous amount of the Olympics — but still a fair amount — and what I did see was on NBC or USA (no Gold Zone for me). What amazed me was that I didn’t even hear a mention — let alone see a highlight or an actual bout — during coverage on those two channels of men’s boxing. Saw a couple highlights of women’s boxing and some controversy. Not sure if lack of men’s coverage had to do with the US team not being very good (I think only one made it to semifinals) or just the lack of interest in sport in general. Far cry from when I was younger and Olympic boxing was must see.

Another sport I saw none of and heard no reports on was rowing. Not exactly a huge rowing fan, but always liked seeing it in Olympics.
If you're at a computer while watching the Olympics, bring up the BBC sports site for a live text updates. They cover every event a British athlete is in, which as you can guess, included plenty of rowing and boxing. And they did a good enough job covering the venues that I felt a sense of the energy of the crowds and how the athletes dealt with it.

It probably doesn't sound very good, but for people like me it's better than tv.

Why do you keep tossing about comments like this? Nobody said that.

I, and probably most every other fan brought to womens basketball during C. Clarks rise, (what the past 3 years maybe?), likely have no idea who Stewart is. Again, another comment pulled out of thin air that has nothing to do with the conversation. Leaving CC off the Olympic team was a missed opportunity, pretty simple.

For some reason you seem hellbent on changing the narrative into something other than that.

Again though, the Olympics are about putting the best team out there, not the team that will get the most eyeballs on TV. If you're only watching the Olympics or women's basketball in general because of Caitlin Clark, you're doing it because you're a fan of her, not the sport. Besides, Caitlin will have plenty of opportunities to play in the Olympics in her career. Her not being part of the U.S. roster in this tournament is not that big of a deal.

Clark, like Taytum, would not have played. Their time is coming.
It's amazing that some are major fan boys of CC.

Most of the boxing and rowing stuff was on Peacock I think. I don't recall off hand if any of the other NBC Universal owned channels aired any of them.

Best team at the Olympics, sure. Too bad you are only allowed one team, WNBA All-Stars might have made it more fun. WNBA Gold and USA Silver methinks..... ;) Also what is with the Jayson Tatum/Caitlin Clark comparisons???? J Tatum was the 2nd leading scorer on the 2020 Olympic team, yet in 2024 he now has to wait his turn??? Funny stuff there. Just purely going off multiple articles I've read, Tatum not playing was a Steve Kerr thing.

Yeah, I think our systems of accountability have room for improvement. There are successful models, but the goals have to be agreed on first. Trickier than it should be.
