Same school's fans shouted "Kenny can't read!" when the Flying Illini played in Evanston in '89. Super sleuths at the Tribune missed that one too.

No they do not. And not worth the effort to sue the accuser unless she is heir to a large fortune. No malicious prosecution because the court found probable cause. Best shot is a 1983 action against Douglas County. I am troubled with their conduct but not disclosing the Morris situation/investigation put me over the top. As someone else suggested what should be done is pour every resource into making sure she does not get re-elected. Don't know much about Douglas County but they deserve better
THIS. Would the court have found probable cause if they were aware that the DA's office had withheld this potentially exculpatory evidence about Morris, who DID have a history of assaulting young women, was there that night near the victim and apparently may have done the exact same thing just two weeks earlier?

And by the way, mrh vet, on behalf of all of the Illinois Loyalty members who have followed this story over the last 6 months, I really want to say thanks for all of your extremely insightful commentary and analysis of the case against TSJ. With your experience in the criminal justice system and courtroom. every one of your posts was must reading. The actions of DA Valdez and her staff clearly outraged you as an abuse of her prosecutorial powers and the TSJ jury verdict confirmed much of what you had been saying about why this case never should have been brought.

The problem with those sites like ESPN etc., they never have a comments section so nobody can speak about what the article is. That is by design.

Mr. Tibbs

southeast DuPage
that was such a weak case , Joe Pesci playing Vinny Gambini would have gotten him off

but thank God a bunch of smart & UI friendly lawyers stepped up and did him a solid .

I don’t know what he was charged , but it would have been 10x or more if he wanted equally competent attorneys off the street

Pretty sure the friend did put out those and not her. But point taken.

Good news for TSJ, now those early morning workouts can resume without anything other than basketball on his mind. Best to him in the NBA.

Still nothing from ESPN. what a joke of a network they have become. If it was one of their beloved Dukies it would have been the front page within seconds saying “breaking news”
They just ran through a series of irrelevant topics on Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption, nothing about TSJ

To the people saying hang the jersey- Illinois has the following rules for that:

Players selected to have their jerseys hung must have achieved any of the following criteria:
1) National Player of the Year
2) Enshrined in the National Basketball Hall of Fame
3) Big Ten Player of the Year
4) Consensus First- or Second-Team All-American
5) Illinois All-Century Team Member
6) Individual whose pioneering efforts made a significant impact on Illinois and international basketball

Unfortunately thanks to the charges, his chance of being a Consensus All-American was taken from him. Maybe he'll get selected to the next All-Century Team.
There's always exceptions that can be made. The eye test matters. He has the 4th highest scoring average season in Illinois history, scored the most points in school history for a season, broke the conference tourney single game scoring record, won MVP of that tourney on the way to the title. There have been less than a handful of players that had a better season than TSJ in my almost 40 years as an Illini basketball fans. He deserves to be in the rafters and shouldn't have to wait for the next All-Century Team for that to happen.

And he did all of that with a bogus rape charge hanging over him for most of the season.

This isn’t North Korea the university can make an exception if they choose to do so.

From a prosecutor perspective, assuming they stick with the case:

-Upping the charge from misdemeanor to felony was a bad gamble; misdemeanor would've given the jury more of an out

-Would not have coached the victim and friend to add the grabbing at the last minute

-Would have coached the victim to be honest about her personality

I love Luke and his post supporting TSJ, but man does it hurt to see the profile pic of him in clown pants. Ugh. Guess I'll have to get over this eventually, but apparently today is not that day. Still love the guy, but literally anywhere else would have been easier on me personally. Not sure he took that into account when he made his decision. ;)

And even the 1983 action against the County would be difficult, if not impossible, if the Prosecutor's status in Kansas is like that in Illinois. And the 1983 case brought up before involving Quincy dealt with their County Coroner. The Coroner is subject to the County Handbook governing Office Holders and employees. The State's Attorney is not a County Office Holder, he is an officer of the State's executive branch. I danced this dance when I went after our County's State's Attorney seeking a special prosecutor to investigate alleged misfeasence and malfeasance.

No mention of the verdict on the Score yet.
We will wait until hell freezes over for the Dan Bernstein apology. What he said about TSJ and ILLINOIS when the charges were first filed was so outrageous and inflammatory that I have refused to listen to him on the radio since that morning. This Duke wanna be lawyer would sure be singing a different song if it was a Duke basketball player that was charged.

Wonder if the girls changing their story was the reason why the secondary charge was upgraded, and not the other way around.

Yeah but this is the same university that suspended him.
I have faith in my Alma Mater that they will do what’s right here. This young man was put through more than most of us could ever fathom and remained poised, professional, respectful and played at a First Team AA level. I for one believe the university owes this to TJ to continue righting the wrong that has been done to him. Now the healing begins for TJ, this is 1 of those steps of healing.
