Illinois Football Uniforms

I have become almost as much of a broken record on this as with my hatred of the Horseshoe, but I honestly hated those uniforms so much. :ROFLMAO: Again, I have beaten this horse to death ... but they were the worst of both worlds. Had nothing traditional/classic about them, and yet they were astonishingly boring. They epitomized what I saw as Nike's lowest possible single effort to cash in on a very unfortunate minimalist trend that is thankfully beginning to die.

Some are better than others in that era, but I think they all are way worse than everything that came before them and what we have now. I'd probably rank them like this from most aesthetically pleasing to least, of the endlessly random combos we used during that era:

Those jerseys were SO plain and cheap looking that the only combinations that even kind of worked involved non-traditional color schemes of ours so that we could incorporate orange, blue and white in appropriate quantities. Especially our road uniforms in those with an orange number on a white jersey with no navy outline just looked so bad to me, haha.
There is something about the simplicity that makes me like these. I can't stand the shoulder stripe on our current kit. I'd rather have a few trim additions to the kit from that era compared to the what we are wearing now.

Okay, winning is nice, but come on … lol.
My preferred combos:

Home: O/B/O
Away: O/W/O
Big home games: O/O/O

That gives us a consistent theme (always orange lid and orange pants, the only thing changing week to week is jersey color). I wouldn’t wear all orange every week, but for an orange out, it was perfect.

I am an admitted Orangeaholic….but that pic of X with the perfect flow of the B/W/B shoulder and pants stripe and the ILLINOIS lid is one of the top 2 or 3 home looks we’ve ever had.

Put away the all orange hate.
It was pure fire last night.
All I’m responding to is the post that said this should be our only home jersey! Sidelining the navy forever is nuts, lol.

I will explain my position on the color orange.....

TentakilRex Law of Orange Teams-

If your team has an orange as a color, you should preferably use one of two uniform options
:

1. Only use orange as an accent color. The Chicago Bears are the poster child of this styles.
2. Go full out orange to a comical degree, the more "glow in the dark" the better. Examples, Netherlands soccer and Clemson.

Anything else just isn't as good as it should be.

Did anyone else think the Illinois helmet sticker looked a bit too small? I think the photos of it in the summer looked better, cause the sticker was bigger and thicker.

The all-orange is not my favorite but it worked in the big game / night game environment. In my opinion it really helped that the helmet, jersey, and pants were all the same shade of orange. My recollection is that past attempts at all-orange sometimes failed at this.
yes .

the stripes on helmet , jersey & pants all being the same and bi-color white & blue also helped a lot
