Ty Rodgers to take redshirt year

#28
Is the point of redshirting that he doesn’t want to plummet his transfer stock by not getting heavy minutes? Is it that he knows he isn’t going pro and just wants to save his year of eligibility for a place he will actually play?

This new era of college basketball has many positives for players and programs….I have a feeling this ain’t one of them

My guess is, he figured he wouldn’t have the role he wanted this year. And instead of wasting a year or eligibility, he can redshirt, then have two full years remaining.

Damn this is sad for me. Love what he embodied and what he represented…. A tough hard nosed, overlooked guy that may not be as talented as some… but a winner.

Watched Brad’s EIU preview and he rarely mentioned TY… makes sense now.

Would love for him to stick it out and play here, but can’t see it happening.

As of right now, this team has no immediately obvious big-bodied defensive stopper. That's a problem. Ty looked to be the guy who could step into TSJ's shoes. There's a lot of pressure on Tre now. His defense in the scrimmage looked far more like his time at Louisville than the glimpses of competent defense he showed at USC. He'll have to break out of some bad habits or we might have a serious hole on the defensive end.

And then there's all those offensive boards. Goodness knows we have the height to maybe make up for it, but some of our guys will have to get a lot more scrappy than they might have previously envisioned.

We have the talent to make up for this, but do these guys have the heart? We'll find out.

Hate that he’s leaving (or will be), but think about what it means for the current roster. Assuming we figure out how to play defense and play together, this could be a deeper run that last year.

I don’t want to go all old man here, because I believe in the players right to transfer and all that.

But this is just incredibly selfish from Ty, and I don’t care what anyone says. We have no idea how the roster will play out this year. He just gave up on his team and coach.
