I don’t want to go all old man here, because I believe in the players right to transfer and all that.

But this is just incredibly selfish from Ty, and I don’t care what anyone says. We have no idea how the roster will play out this year. He just gave up on his team and coach.
Without any real details emerging, it is not fair to call Ty selfish and quiting on his team. It appears to me that the tea leaves were showing him not having the role he wanted, then red shirting makes sense. He can still be of value in the practice/scouting room, all while developing his game at a premier program and getting ready for his next endeavor.

I hope he concentrates on getting his UI degree this year if transferring is in fact on the table. I'm bummed, but I have no idea what the Big Picture looks like for Ty.

It may not be fair but that’s the reality of it when you decide to redshirt the day the season starts. I’ll Venmo ya $100 if he is on our roster next year

I'm wondering if Ty had just met with Brad, it might have been Brad's idea?

So Underwood starts him all last year on an Elite 8 team...but this year he can't get minutes? This is a poor look for the program to now only bring back 1 player. I know many will say it doesn't matter but that is orange tinted spin. And to lose your best defender on a team that can't defend is also not ideal. So for all the people saying Underwood wasn't giving out promises to these recruits I'm gonna have to call bs on that. I think he made so many that Ty had no spot.

Know I’m spamming this thread, but this sucks. Just got done playing college baseball several years ago, coaching baseball now… Ty reminded me of myself and a player that just finds ways to win. Was never the most talented and probably wasn’t even talented enough to play d1 baseball.

ILL doesn’t make the elite 8 without Ty last year. I understand the more talent and more upside with this years team, but you can’t get that much more upside than last years team. Like Brad said we were a final four team that just happened to run into UConn in the elite 8. It’s hard to believe Ty wouldn’t get 20-25 mins of this years team solely because of defense, rebounding, toughness, and winning.

I know at the end of the day it was probably Ty’s decision, and maybe he wants to work on his shooting and come back and be a star, but I just don’t see it in todays world. Sad to see, just sad to see.

Now there's an even greater chance that we have to hear BU lament a lack of leadership throughout the course of the season.

I really hope the universe that is "group of immature strangers fails to meet expectations and finishes 9th in the B10" isn't the one we're inhabiting.

This sucks. He must have been shooting quite poorly in practice if he wasn't even willing to get out there and get a couple up against Eastern Illinois.
Like, is he communicating that he doesn't have faith in his ability to improve this part of his game? Or does he think his game in its current state still deserves 25 mpg?
It wasn't super frequent, but there were multiple entire halves, perhaps even games, that he was the best player on the floor the last two seasons. Sucks.

I'd assume that Ty wasn't fairing particularly well in practice. I highly doubt that Brad would take a starting caliber player and let him walk.

Ty was a guy that was playable when you had three legitimate scores on the floor(Hawkins, Domask and TJ). It was 4 on 5 on offense, but those guys were so good that Ty would play to his strengths, which is defense, rebounding and getting dirty on the floor. He never bothered to even look at the rim. Can't have that this year.

Brad's job is to win. Hard stop.
