Ty Rodgers to take redshirt year

Whose responsibility is it to help him improve in those specific skills that he needs assistance with? I am pretty sure he is putting the work in. Maybe our coaching staff isn't doing enough for him b/c they're more focused on the NBA talent? It would be nice if our fanbase didn't automatically turn their back on of our loyal guys and actually look at both sides of this situation?
Now this is quite a take 🤣

What else do you have for us today?

Assuming since he isn’t in the portal other schools can’t contact him (wink), but does anybody want to start a rumor I can run with on potential landing spots?

I have a feeling that Will Riley will replace Tre White in the starting line-up at some point in mid-season, although, I think TW will still get significant minutes.
there's nothing wrong with having some firepower on the bench. Jason Richardson and Marvin Williams come to mind as guys who were star players but came off the bench (if my memory is correct). Legs are a little tired when they come in fresh. Doesn't really matter who starts, more important who ends the game.

Ty can find better than 10-12 mins per game. Low key annoyed at Underwood for doing this to him. No loyalty at all and over recruiting a program guy. Not a bench player...a program player
What is it with this emphasis on loyalty? PT is earned via performance, nothing else. Rodgers is not a program player. He's a severely limited player on offense on a much deeper, bigger team that Underwood wants to show high-octane offense and fire up lotsa treys, as evidenced by the 42 they launched last night.
Rodgers could fill a bench role but apparently was unwilling to use year of eligibility for such PT.

It's not that Ty was a bad shooter because we just didn't know. It's the fact that he wouldn't shoot anything beyond 8 feet. Having an absolute liability like that on offense will kill you, it hurt us last year. Ty not taking a jump shot shows his shot is really bad or he has no confidence in it. All the other players that people are bringing up that made significant improvements as the years went on at least shot the ball. Can't tell if you can do it if you don't even try.

Ty will be remembered fondly, talked about for years and blamed for every close loss. Coaches have to make tough decisions. His red-shirt was not done in a vacuum, anymore than the four departures since spring (coaches and players.) Underwood is retooling for the future and it looks like the philosophy is-- if you can't run and shoot threes, you're in the way...

He's not going old-school, he's going NBA/new-school...

Let me catch up here:

BU hates Ty
Ty would beat Tre twenty-one to zero in a game of 1 on 1
Will's outing wasn't all that impressive bc he's almost 19
Our defense sucks, wait until we play a middle pack SEC team
DGL is only good against Eastern IL

What else did I miss?

Thank you for being the voice of reason. This has been my point since last night. Tre White has not proven to impact winning or be a winner at the college level. I don't know the kid so I can't speak about his practice habits or if he works harder than Ty Rodgers but the proof is in the pudding as far as what player has impacted winning and what player has not impacted winning on two teams now.

Tre White is not an overall better player than Ty Rodgers. I'm glad there are some sensible fans who see that Ty has basically been railroaded by a player who has not impacted winning. That's why I continue to bring up a lack of loyalty that BU has shown to a program guy, a leader, and one of the keepers of the program as Brad has mentioned multiple times.
If Brad thinks we win more games with Tre over Ty, I trust his judgment. The offense is clearly going to flow much better with Tre. We will have more spacing. You don’t have to guard Ty when he is more than 5 feet away from the basket.

Admittedly Ty probably gives us better defense but Brad is hanging his hat on being an offensive coach. I think that style is attractive to high level recruits. (See Will Riley.)

It’s not Ty vs Tre, it’s Ty vs Ben, Tre, Carey, Will
I know this sounds bad, but I have to say what a great problem to have. This means that we are bringing in higher talent. The big boys do this consistently, so it is refreshing to see us in that company. I do feel bad for Ty, because he was expecting to be starter when "re-committing" to the team, only to be recruited over by more talent after the portal window closed. However, this is the new norm for now. I expect him to still contribute to the team, albeit, without a playing time role.

This is kind of the trade off with the new normal of NIL and relaxed transfer rules. More flexibility for players, yes, but also more ability for programs to bring in talent. I have a feeling even Ty probably still prefers this to the old way of things, in which maybe he'd continue to start, or maybe he would have been recruited over anyway, and in either event he wouldn't be getting paid and the option of transferring would be more difficult.

I can see a correlation of this to BU's decision 2 years ago to play an offensive liability(Williams) over a future 1st round draft pick and offensive plus player(Podziemski)...because he probably felt it would give him a better chance of winning. This and recruiting over him with Clark and Epps resulted in Podziemski transferring. Brad picked defense and leadership over raw talent in the first case...this time he's picking offense and shooting ability. Either direction you go you lose someone.
This is a hard era for coaches and fans with all the player movement. You really can't get too invested in players anymore as a fan. Guess you can follow one of the teams whose coaches haven't jumped into the new portal era(Izzo,Painter)...otherwise trust BU and ride the wave.

Cofirmed BU also hates Jason Jakstys...will likely redshirt.
