St Louis Cardinals 2024

Winning this series today could become key if Cardinals and Braves end up tied for a wild card spot at the end of the season. Cardinals win today means that they win the season series 4-2 and would host in the Wild Card round if the two teams are tied for the 4th and 5th seeds in the NL.

THAT'S A WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!

Cardinals beat the Braves today by a score of 6-2.............

Cardinals win a season series from the Braves (4-2 for the first time since 2017 ...................

Redbirds smash 4 home runs today..........

Mikolas pitched well enough to get the win........way to go Lizard King.................

Continuing on the road trip to face the Pirates in a 3 game series starting tomorrow.........let's sweep this series and open up some daylight in the Wild card race and keep the pressure on the Brewers...................

we've got about a week to improve this roster. Moz wont do it (fear of giving away our young talent like in the past)
but if we can afford to take on some salary, a #1-2 pitcher and Walker hitting again would sure make the team look
better!

As you said Mo won't do it. Even so wouldn't it be nice to have a real #1 SP?

Sonny Gray is a #1 starter, runner up in AL Cy Young last year.Cardinals need their corner infielders to start slugging,if they can this team will take off.A top starter or reliever is always welcome but the offense has been main problem.

comparing us to the NL Central is one approach. In that case our pitching is fine. if, however you want
to compete for a world series our pitching needs a #1, 2. Gray has shown only one year as a #1 and there
is a steep drop off to our supposed #2. the phillies and dodgers are our competition to win the NL. we
can "buy" a pitcher by taking a salary for the remainder of the year from a team out of contention. A trade
for a corner outfielder would mean letting our future go. And im not talking about Carlson, Nootbar or
Gorman (any those guys are not worth much in a trade) the first words out of any trade partner will be
our young minor league arms (Hence, Mathews, Bedell, Roby) or position guys Davis, Scott or Walker. Those
guys are no touch guys unless the take is big!

We had our chance in the off season when Seattle wanted Gorman for their #2 starter. we passed. they're
not making that deal now.

Congratulations. It only took 28 minutes for someone to mention Sonny.
I realize many consider him to be a SP1. He does has his moments but can be rather average as well.
10-6 with a 3.54 average doesn't have the makings of a #1 pitcher to me. Yes I realize wins and losses are not the true indicator of a pitcher's performance. Still if a pitcher's record is 4 games over .500 and the teams as a whole is 5 games over .500 he doesn't look very much like a real #1. If we look at WAR his 1.1 is the same as Kyle Gibson.
If you want to call him a #2 SP that's sounds more reasonable to me.
BTW, post season awards are a bit of a misnomer. It's more of a popularity contest than the true indicator of who is the best pitcher/player in a given year. I lost all respect when Willie Stargell and Keith Hernandez were voted co MVPs in 1979. A 1.5 WAR vs 7.6. The system was flawed then. It still is today.

Number 1 starter not walking threw the door this year.Sonny is our top starter and would start game 1 in playoffs. The production of Goldschmidt,Arenado, and Gorman is key for the Cardinals hopes going forward.

Yep. As I said, Mo won't do it but it would be nice.

why is this not an option..... other than we aren't the big boys. and if so, we never will be.

I like Jack, but I don’t know if I trust in his stuff that quickly. I like the cheap Fedde option. I’d imagine we will check on some Tampa pitchers, Zack Eflin. He should be under contract for next season too. Eovaldi could be a name to check on. End of this season rental.

THAT'S A WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What an entertaining game as the Cardinals even the series with an exciting 2-1 victory...............

Arenado with a big homer and , my man Burleson , with a great AB and hit off of Skenes for the game winning RBI.....
Helsley with a fantastic 9th inning with 3 K's as he gets his 33rd save........

Cardinals hand the big righty Skenes with his first MLB loss............

The Cardinals have the grit and tenacity of a bunch of junk yard dawgs.................woof woof....................

Let's get the series win tomorrow afternoon.......................

Brewers are in a rain delay last I checked.............

Whew , what an awesome win...........................

Lynn's 2000 K was a nice milestone. I looked to see where he is on the all time list. He is tied for #87 with Andy Benes. It took Andy 500 more innings to get to 2000. Out of curiosity I looked to see how many pitchers have been on the mound. Over 11,000 but that includes position players who came in during a blow out game. #87 out of 10,000 real pitchers isn't too shabby. (Lynn is 15 more K's from Rick Reuschel and #83.)

Let me begin by saying I realize Liberatore is only 24 years old. (We say that often when looking at Cardinal players who have not approached their "potential".) I also know he has improved each year he has played in the majors. With the disclaimer out of the way, Matt has been rather a mediocre disappointment to me. For being atop 2-3 prospect in the Cardinal's minor league system a few years ago he has been rather uninspiring whenever he gets called up.
They are two different pitchers but you look at the performances Skenes puts in game after game and then look at Liberatore and all I can do is to shake my head.
