Minnesota 25, Illinois 17 Postgame

I'm not going "whoa is me" we lost.....coming into this season most of us were praying for at least 4 wins and protect our recruiting efforts as Bret continues to build.

This was expected, we are banged up, but have shown up in every game to keep it within one score in the 4th quarter.

Say what you will, but at least we don't have a reason to shut the tv off until the clock hits 0:00, and for a long time that was not the case.

Let's learn from this one, support the boys and coaching staff so we can hopefully go to bowl games for the foreseeable future and stay competitive!

I was feeling good after the Michigan game and thought we might give Oregon a game. But we are Illinois and I have been disappointed many, many times over my 61 years.

More play action on first and second down will slow up the defensive line. Can't always have 2nd and long because of our predictable play calling. Today, will not help our recruiting, and fan apathy will start to set in. Why do we always seem to not get any calls when playing at home? Refs seem to hate the Illini for some reason. Can't run or stop the run.

Targeting. Should go out of the game if they aren’t going to call it. Sad refs

I still think they should take away the automatic DQ for targeting and give the refs some subjectivity to determine intent. Guys are flying around out there. Helmet to helmet, fine add 15. But don’t through anyone out unless it’s malicious.

That said, they still have to call it. Pretty clear one on Franklin not called.

The hit on the slide, and multiple holds where Minn got big yardage. Those were big mistakes by the refs. I don’t care about the ones called, they made mistakes. I don’t think it changes the outcome as they were winning the trenches all day.
The holds not called on Minny were the tough one.
If they called just one of them, maybe they do it less, and our D looks a whole lot better.

We have already made a Bowl Game, which for most of us, was the goal for this season. But darn those increased expectations. Lots of close wins & losses - we are getting there. Good to have a bye week and heal-up for the final three games of season.

Go Illin.

Until you have Dudes on the OLine and DLine that can dictate a game...this is what we get. Games decided by big plays, poor officiating missed/bad calls.

Luke's pocket presence is pretty weak sometimes....but he's been running for his life all season.

We are a poor blocking and tackling team.

Luke is a solid QB but if he wants to play at the next level he needs to get through his reads faster. It is predictable on where he is going to throw. Also his pocket awareness needs to improve. He needs to step up instead of going side to side and get rid of the ball if there is nothing there

OL has to be able to protect him when they bring pressure

McCray was actually breaking tackles. McCray was bullying those guys and we went away from him in the second half

7 carries for McCray to 5 for Laughery. Even if you take his long run out he was 6 for 32. Laughery seems to have no vision or patience and just runs straight into the back of his lineman even when there are holes open. McCray absolutely needs to be the go to guy the rest of the way. Giving clutch carries to Laughery is almost criminal at this point.

He doesn’t feel the rush and holds out the ball. A lot of our tackling is just diving at the ball carriers legs

They should have figured this out weeks ago, it’s been clear McCray is the better runner and pass catcher.

McCray is a bull. If you consistently run him teams will wear down. He hits the hole hard and keeps his legs moving on contact.
