Minnesota 25, Illinois 17 Postgame

Really? Playing like we did in the 2nd half of Purdue, the Oregon game and now this. I just don't another win on the table...I pray to God I'm wrong.

Look at the schedule. All 3 games are very winnable. We are running the ball better. If we can get healed up on D I expect to beat NW, likely Rutgers and MSU I would say toss up.

Minnesota is a good team. We weren’t 100% but held our own. Just couldn’t quite get over the top but we have numerous times this year.

We simply need better recruits, period … and that requires more NIL. Unfortunately, it’s wins or “proof of concept” that are necessary to galvanize what should (on paper) be a very large and willing Illini donor base. Losses like this just push people back onto the fence … or off of it in the wrong direction. :(

It’s really hard to build a college football program. We are light years ahead of where we were 5 years ago and have a good chance to win 8 games for the second time in 3 years. We’ve got a junior heavy team with a lot coming back next year if we can prevent being portaled to death. Arrow still pointing up.

The quality of the post-season bowl we'll play in is getting worse by the week. Gotta get two of the remaining ones. Gotta. And I don't wanna see another 19-10 bowl loss, either.

Gotta pin this response because it’s 100% accurate.

How soon people forget we used to be done going into the forth quarter down three scores. Now we’re fighting in (almost) every single game down to the last possession.

I would say we only looked close to 100% vs Nebraska. Haven't brought our A game since then

I have seen bowl projections of Illinois playing either Alabama or Texas A&M. This game shows why we are not ready to compete at that level yet.

We ARE Illinois ... WE are not ALLOWED to have nice things... We are a developmental program... it takes TIME to develop 3-star recruits into good players... During that time, we are only allowed to catch lightning in a bottle occasionally... And this was NOT one of those occasions... We need tougher, smarter, more dependable players who are stronger, faster, and more talented... Injuries to our good players also hinder our possible outcomes...

One step forward, two steps backward. Just gotta win home games like this for the program to move forward. Yes, refs sucked, but so did the play calling, eating 3 time outs at halftime, losing the turnover battle, the lack of maintaining the corners on defense, over pursuit by the back side linebacker all day, kicking the ball out of bounds on the kickoff, just some fundamental stuff that even mediocre teams don't do. There were some good plays, the stop on the fake punt, our DBs man coverage seemed above average, our receivers catching the ball down the field, but not much eye candy at all. We need better play during the middle of the game - right now we are too convervative, boring play calling.

A dinged up low talent outfit that has been floating on luck, good coaching, and smart situational football played okay but just didn't have quite enough to overcome a superior opponent.

All of the next three are toss-ups.
Agree with most of this, but nothing showed me that Minnesota was superior today (or even in general). This game looked fairly even, and the primary difference was 2 Altmyer fumbles. Minnesota is very vanilla but play effectively. We simply made too many mistakes to win.

It’s disappointing and a bit frustrating... but today’s result just seems to be the Illini playing at their current level of ability.

A decent season up until now... home crowd... some good holdover vibes from the season so far... still had a good chance at the end of the game... and Illini did not close the deal.

As we know, the difference between winning and losing can often be just turning the ball over at the wrong time... or one team rises to the challenge of finishing a drive to win the game at a key moment and the other one doesn’t. And that certainly was the case today.

The Illini still have a chance to put their definition on to this 2024 Season. It could slide into another season approaching mediocrity... or they could still make a statement that the program is in fact on the rise in the tough Big Ten.

When you have your chances there’s really not much to complain about. And the Illini had their chances today. Their answers will be found by looking in the mirror.

Minnesota delivered... and the Illini didn't. That's why they play the games -- to find out.

I never felt officials were “out to get” Illinois until today. I thought there was one crew that they seemed to have trouble with, but the non call on the Luke slide was an “F you” by the officials.

These are 'Part-Time jobs'.... That's the problem. College football needs to fund an 'Officials School' and pay them decent money... It also needs to get more inline with modern technology... Many technological features are available that could improve the game, make officiating more 'Professional', improve ball placement (which is atrocious in all conferences) ...

No question there is a sea change. They energy is different and we are sagging. It’s gut-check time. We can still have an amazing season. Guys just need to step up if they want it.

What was the targeting call on Scott? From in the stadium it looked like a clean hit.

Mood in the crowd was ugly at the end of the game after being low energy all day.....not a good showing for anyone.
