Assuming he stays 2025 ...

Kentucky sitting 4th as of today ...

Tier 1: Bama, UNC, Illinois

Tier 2: UK, Baylor

If he goes 2024 ... Bama is out ... UNC is out ... Baylor is out ...
I guess that means he’s got all the necessary academic requirements to reclass. Would take a really mature kid to want to develop for another year in high school when he could go get that $ bag in college..

Making sure I understand. We didn’t want Fears to reclassify, but we are ok with Jasper reclassifying? Is Jasper that much better than Fears?
I just don't get why so many posters are coming in with this idea. Don't wanna come across as impolite but isn't it common sense? I don't think it's complicated.

In addition to the fact that one is quite by a long shot the more mature player if you watch them...

Player A is a top 10 player in his current class...Player B is a fringe top 40 player in his current class and maybe not even that...

Player A if he reclasses will most likely still remain a five star...player B if he reclasses will most likely not even remain a top 50 player.

Cmon now...

With this current lineup, is JJ a starter. I don’t understand how we are attractive in regards to a reclassification. Sure 2025 its a no brainer as I think it is with Fears.

I don’t know that I see a lot of difference in playing time. If we take JJ on a reclassification.

This would make sense if Bam Bam was disappointing in the early scrimmages and our coaching staff didn't have confidence in him, but I don't buy into that Sleepers Media narrative. So who knows? Maybe we just have a bunch of crazy donors who are willing to open their wallets now before the NIL market gets more regulated.

IMO decent chance he would start if we get him for 2024.

Also it is noted that right now we only have three legitimate guards on the roster. If we're going to add one more player, a guard makes sense and JJ is a really good one. Like Riley, he's really talented offensively. Shoots well from outside, but is a magician when he gets in the paint. Also very good handles and passing ability.

JMO...if option A is to have him reclass and make it a sure thing that we're getting him this year...and option B is to not have him reclass and live the risk of possibly (and likely) losing him...I'd gladly go for option A. I get that the development piece might not be great, but at the end of the day, this is a blue chip recruit reclass or not and...

you can say all you want about wanting to be in that top tier of CBB, but if you're not willing to load up on talent, you'll never be at that level...period.

I don't know the chances of reclass or not...but there seems to be a pretty large body of work here that when there's potential buzz about a player possibly reclassing - as there is here - usually it ends up happening.

As Brad always says, "sometimes you can have too many." I would guess Jasper sees that and doubts how much pt he would get at Illinois. Now as for next year, that could make more sense for him.

It’s gonna be tough potentially seeing a lot of talent having to come off the bench and ultimately transferring out. On the flip side that could just lead to more incoming talent so it’s a tough beam to balance on

Fantasy:

I know it will never happen, but once I really want to see a team sell out with a full court 2 full line system where the other team must earn every point from the foul line or on contested jumpers. No open shots. Use 45 fouls if necessary. Wear the opponent and the refs into submission. This could be that team. Everyone would hate them as they lift the trophies at the end of the season. Glorious!!

The Kentucky, Duke, Kansas’s have had to deal with having a handful of 5 stars on the team where they all can’t be the alpha for decades now- we just have to get used to this- our pitch is no longer “come here to be the man”. It’s going to be “come here to play in the best offensive system in the country with other highly talented players so defenses can’t focus on you and you will get drafted based on the skills you show not your stats”

Castle just got drafted in the top 5 after his freshman season for his skills even though he was UConn’s 5th leading scorer and didn’t lead them in any statistical category

We just need to get guys that buy into that mentality- be on a great team with great players around you and everyone looks better

Which...

is by absolutely no means whatsoever...

a bad thing...

I hate to say this, but maybe we should pump the brakes a little on all the trophies we are going to haul in. It's hard to win it all once (we should know because the Flying Illini were the best team in 1989 and didn't win) let alone more than once. I think we have a potentially very talented team but there are many other teams with just as much talent or more. "With that being said," I am excited about this coming year.

Upvoted for proper use of "brakes"

Are you saying that there are people on here who would have used "breaks"? Surely nobody would do that. That's what happens when you drop a light bulb on a ceramic tile floor. I could see someone adding an apostrophe. It seems that proper apostrophe usage is more difficult than brain surgery.
