I don't understand why people appear to want to drive away posters who attempt to lay out an honest take on events, yes.

And I don't know what to say if you don't think RayJ was a huge miss... Which is to be expected--nobody is going to bat 1.000. There will always be misses.

This is common when you don't have a good argument.

Just razzing a bit... but I personally do not see how we missed him at all last year. We made an Elite 8 and RayJ was 3,063 out of 3,070 eligible players in turnovers per game.

At the time, big miss. In hindsight, meh miss.

We had the #1 rated offensive efficiency for much of the season without him, we made it further in the tournament than he did, and finish higher up in KenPom than him.

I’d argue SH’s redshirt hurt us more than missing out on Ray-J. Could’ve used his defense in a few games last year.
And then there was one event that was tragic and damaging. Without that...........who knows?

But missing on RayJ? Meh is the definite hindsight view.

Crazy job of recruiting by Brad and team

- HS Morez 4 star
- HS Riley 5 star
- HS Jaksys 3 star

Europe
- Ivisic
- KJ

Portal
- Boswell JR
- White JR
- Humrichous Grad
- Booth Soph
- Davis Soph

Adding 10 new players in one year. Probably 8 who will be in rotation.

Brad is killing it!
Don't forget arguably the biggest offseason acquisition.......Antigua

But it's not mutually exclusive. It's not like we got domask because ray j didn't come here. It was a pure add. The team in theory would have been better with ray j but it worked out in the end even without him

Huh? I just said it seemed like they had all flew the coop. Said nothing about moderating the board.

Last year our point gaurd recruitment turned into a disaster in the making. We were very fortunate that Domask was able to get the job done for us although not in a typical point gaurds fashion. Brad did a much better job this year of having viable backup plans when our initial targets fell through. I was already pretty happy with our recruitments this year even before we got Riley. He is the cherry on top of Brad's cake.

So if Chester moves to 3rd school then Amani will transfer again to follow an assistant coach?
IF that would happen, then you may have a legit concern about the guy. But, that’s purely hypothetical at this point and adds no merit to the narrative that Amani doesn’t want to battle for minutes. Just because guys transfer from Illinois, doesn’t mean they just want minutes handed to them and don’t want to earn them. A big reason why Amani came to Illinois was because of Chester. A big reason why Will Riley is coming to Illinois is because of Antigua. Nothing is wrong with that. Relationships are a huge part of recruiting.

I must confess that I don't understand posters like this. Do you wish to moderate this board so only people with irrationally positive views post?

I mean--it's a fact that RayJ was a huge miss last year. Luckily, plan C (or D) of using Domask worked out better than anyone, including the Illinois coaching staff, expected. And all credit to the staff for figuring that out midseason and making the needed changes on the fly. That appears to be one of their best skills--the ability to adapt and change tactics as needed.
Quite a jump to go from hoping that people who post annoying stuff stop posting to wishing to “moderate the board.” I can hope and wish that certain posts wouldn’t hit this board AND not want those people administratively stricken from the platform.
For example: I wish you hadn’t made this post because it misrepresents what I said pretty bad. At the same time**, I don’t want your post or you removed from the board :)

You seem to have conflated "honest takes" with "gloom and doom."

Lots of people who didn't post much came here to whine about recruiting misses. That was all they did. They added nothing of value.

I didn’t realize so many people were going to jump to my defense here haha. My bad brother (or sister) sorry to pile on. Please continue speaking your mind- who cares what any of us think??

This is true except that we're one year early, there will still be super seniors all over college basketball next year.

I will take John Calipari problems every day of the week, but they are problems.

I think the question becomes whether we can deliver for these kids in terms of their professional stocks in a way that makes this boom self-sustaining. (Let's get TSJ off the board in the first round to start contributing to this!)

It's gonna be exciting to watch, I love an experiment.

Apologies if you are offended by the word choice of moderate. To me, it's a distinction without a difference--wishing someone doesn't post vs. wishing someone's post be removed.

Can you give me an example of a post that you would consider "gloom and doom"? I don't recall seeing (m)any of those on here. And the number of posts that add value are very few and far between. Most are just people posting opinions--some better than others.

Honestly. I think Domask was far better than RayJ and I don't know if he gets there with RayJ on the team and them playing more traditionally.

If you've could've kept Domask in his role and put RayJ as a secondary option then yes they would have better.

In hindsight I think they were missing rim protection and more consistent shooting(Harmon forgot how to shoot halfway through the season and Guerrier was inconsistent).

Twas just yesterday that we got a 5 * recruit to commit , was it not ????

And today snarkeyness has reared it's ugly head....again.....

For what reason does snarkeyness reappear after the great news of Mr. Riley decision.....has the euphoria already subsided and bickering has gained a foothold in our Illini sanctuary once again ??

Our great off season of rebuilding another roster worthy of a POSSIBLE return to an Elite 8 level or even BETTER will not be tarnished by rehashing past recruiting results in my mind...

Not at all.....

Period.....

This is the time for celebration of a new level of recruiting success .....But I guess that's just too much to expect from this crowd of fanatics.....

So be it.......time to warm up another round of the ignore button usage.....

It's NOT personal to me , just a more pleasant way to spend my time here....

Keep on keeping on folks....may the Ancients be with you....

Adios amigos......

But no one tried to drive anyone away. But, let us say that the original post did drive away some poor beta. Good, because now we can talk about Cottage Cheese and the like without the easily offended.

I just didn’t think Ray J was that great. Plus, I was more sold on the Ty at point experiment than most. Both camps turned out to be wrong. So only the Marcus Domask will be good at PG can post on here now.

Some were just fully primed in case something unexpected happened with Will. Since it didn't, that priming is now going to be released in other ways.
