I still don't like the overall direction that college hoops has headed........

BUT........

Winning a helluva lot of games will ease my pain and suffering.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m thrilled with the amount of talent that we have brought in. But I’ve got a very good feeling that there’s going to be some sad faces on the bench when it comes to playing time that was maybe promised to them when they committed.

Their getting paid now so that should ease some of their pain. Plus they can take advantage of a solid development program and move on next year.

OK, play harder/better!

They all were awesome ball players and get to be a part of an awesome program. There is going to be room for 8 or so kids to get solid minutes. Our tempo will help us against other teams with less depth.

We have turned in to a "baby blue blood" program. We haven't arrived yet, but we seem like a top 10 program right now.

If our biggest problem is an embarrassment of riches in talent such that some players are disappointed with their roles because they could easily start elsewhere, I'm fine with that. I've made my peace.

D1959! Were these two previous posts answered to your satisfaction?
1. I thought bringing in a new assistant coach was the ticket for a big signing soon so where is the big and how soon?
2. So Maddox gone storr gone things seem to be falling apart?
Just wandering. Have a good day.

I know other people have discussed this, but I remember being on the old Illiniboard with “Brumby” and that crew when the Eric Gordon screw job went down. I was so disheartened and really pissed that I didn’t follow recruiting for YEARS!

Obviously some really dark times followed, but it is remarkable to see where we are today. Brad and the staff have done an incredible job. It is SO freaking hard to get guys to buy in to what you are selling when the program has been down for so long.

Enter Ayo and that changed the trajectory of the program. The list of people who have been more impactful to Illinois basketball is very short.

Honestly nothing against Amani but I feel like Booth has vastly more upside(longer, taller, and more athletic).

And Booth appears to currently be the 9th or 10th guy off our bench.

I'm kind of curious on what the pitch to Booth was since he committed early. Kinda strange for a kid that got 20 mpg as a freshman(albeit on a bad Notre Dame team) to likely not see a ton of tick as a sophomore.

Wonder if they sold him on the Coleman Hawkins development plan.

I found the old IB while searching for Shaun Livingston news, days before his commitment.

I do not know how our staff handles the issue of playing time when talking with recruits, but I wonder if they ever really PROMISE time to anyone. They may simply tell the recruit that they believe that he will win the time he thinks he deserves. In other words, they confirm the recruit's own belief.

That might then be both entirely honest and yet might end up with a member of the team later feeling disappointed and so they leave.

Like you, I will believe there will be disappointment in regard to playing time this year. That is very common.
