If Riley does commit, this is gonna be some sweet delayed payoff for all the people who used to show up at Ubben in droves for high level recruits in hopes they would come to Illinois.

Those days seem to behind us.

Hello friends! I have been reading the board for a long time and finally decided to join. Happy to be here! Pruman cracks me up literally every time he posts something. He really, really does. Let’s see…. I understand how the counting thing works, and you’ll NEVER see me in a game thread. Trust me…. Nobody wants that :)

In other news, I have spent the last few weeks watching clip after clip of Lithuanian and Canadian basketball players. And I wonder why I’m single. Finally, I get this tingly sensation whenever I see Denzel Washington. Weird.

If Riley does commit, he will be our highest rated recruit ever, and our best since...

Morez Johnson, class of 2024. What a time to be alive.

Programs get in trouble when unseasoned (in the college game) recruits come in with outsized expectations of playing time/role. I hope that BU would not pander to the wishes of a recruit if doing so is not in the best interest of the product on the court. If we play better with Ty's experience, intangibles, and defense than we do with Riley or KJ -- no guarantee given Ty's lack of a shot -- I suspect BU will be fine ruffling their feathers. At the end of the day, what's said to recruits in April/May is rarely how things develop when the season starts, particularly now that we're more established as a program.

Underwood strikes me as a guy that tells it like it is. Then again, he gets paid the big bucks to figure these things out!

I tend to agree with this. I think if Riley commits, we're almost certainly going with a starting lineup of

Boswell
Jakucionis
Riley
Humrichous
Ivisic

I'd still expect Morez, Ty, and Tre to get at least 15 a game, but I'd be surprised if that wasn't the starting 5.

With regards to defensive worries though, yeah, that starting 5 concerns me. Humrichous, Jakucionis, and Riley would all project to be minus defenders to start the season. Only Ivisic projects as a plus right now. So in my opinion we'd probably need to score in the high 80s to win games this year. I do think we have that ability, but I do agree with people saying there are concerns there
One difference this year is we may have an actual rim protector in Ivisic.

they're gonna rationalize it: special circumstance, re-class. and they aren't wrong

if Riley stays in "his" class, it's a brand new ballgame

whatever though. I'll take winning a 5 star battle all day, every day
They will blame it on lack of available PT. They also seem to disregard NIL as a major factor in this new era of recruiting. I rarely see them discuss it. Still, will feel real nice to beat an old school blue blood. 😊

They can talk whatever they want … From their couch in March … 🤷🏻‍♂️

They wanted Cal gone because he can’t make the 2nd weekend anymore … Just to hire a guy who has NEVER made the 2nd weekend … 😂😂😂

No one fears Mark Pope on the recruiting trail … He did not win a single high profile recruitment this off season … Not one …

Possibly the second or third highest, Marcus Liberty was a consensus top 3. Many had him #1. Nick Anderson and Efrem Winters were also top rated players. Lowell Hamilton was #1 as a high school freshmen.

"Marcus Liberty, considered the best high school basketball player in the United States, will enroll at Illinois next fall.

Liberty, a 6-foot-8-inch, 205-pound senior from King, announced his decision Thursday and said he will sign a letter of intent with Illinois next Wednesday, the first day of the November signing period.

A three-year starter for the Jaguars, Liberty averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds a game while leading King to the Class AA state championship last March. Last summer, he was a consensus pick as the top player at the prestigious Nike basketball camp in Princeton, N.J."-Chicago Tribune

Seems fitting since UK couldn't even win a recruiting battle for a coach.
