I see several no way comments & while I believe that is probably true...on the other hand...

1) somewhere back a few weeks Underwood said the reason they would hold a couple open schollies was for an impact opportunity that might pop up now and/or at midyear. - Coleman would be the definition of an impact transfer. It would be stupid for us not to want him back.

2) Coleman said this was a business decision to leave himself options & it seems pretty clear he isn't planning on coming back...However, even if our NIL coffers are dry, there has been previous talk of being able to secure some extra funds for big names...With Coleman's history, would there be a chance he has more value to Illinois alumni than some random transfer? If we could find some extra funds for a Demin, Storr, ... why not Coleman who has some great history. So if it is truly a business decision, while I still expect the chance is low that we can outbid UNC/UConn or other suitors, I don't think it is zero & I wouldn't totally count out Underwood/Whitman to find some more money. I would also agree with your thought that where Coleman thinks we stand with our roster rebuild would weigh in as well.

So while I don't think it is likely; I don't see it as totally impossible.

I agree this may be off. It will be a battle for starting spots over coming months. And seeing who plays best together.... Going to be fun to watch.
Starters are a long way from being established and will change during the season. I have most minutes going to Kylan B and Kasparas J at guard, with DGL & Ty backing them up. I can see White starting at wing with Ty and Davis backing him up. I see Humrichous starting at PF with Booth right behind him in terms of minutes. I have Tomislav I starting at center with Morez J backing him up. Of course we may also see variations such as lineups with KB, KJ, TW, BH and CB, or KB, DGL, TW, CB, and MJ, or KB, KJ, JD, BH and TI. I expect many combinations will be played and matchups will help determine who plays along with defense, as team gets into meat of schedule. I look forward to all combinations as there is great talent across the board and potent offensive firepower with almost any lineup BU can put out there.

While it may not be 0%, it's nevertheless a very low probability. It just doesn't make sense for us to offer him what other programs likely will and as you said (and he said), it's a business decision on his part. We're pretty loaded up front (PF, C, SF). It's possible that Coleman is better than all those guys, but not by that much.

If we had unlimited NIL, sure I'd say take him. Or (as was suggested a few weeks back), if there is some big booster who is willing to specifically pay Coleman's NIL, I'd be fine with that. But if any such booster actually existed, they may very well have changed their mind after seeing what we've added up front.

Keep in mind, we have six frontcourt players who could start at a lot of big programs -- Ivisec, Morez, Hum, Booth, White, and Rodgers. None may be a star next year, but they are all fairly talented. Then add in Davis and Jacksys. Lots of depth for us upfront.

Going to give the benefit of the doubt and assume this is really well played sarcasm.

Tough day for KJ! He went from 6'6" to 6'4" in one hour! All (bad) jokes aside, glad he is joining the orange and blue. Go Illini!
Could just be a conversion error from the metric system. Or one measurement was at the beginning of the day the other at the end

Did our team measurements seem consistent at the combine this year?

yeah, i think our offense will be dynamic. we really depended a lot on iso ball in the half court if TSJ didnt get a break away.

Domask booty ball was effective but lead to some predictability down the stretch.

This roster could be very high paced and fun to watch if they commit to playing as a team and making the extra pass, ala 2004....
Agreed - frankly just having Kasparas as a shooter on the wing and running some zoom action for him to get the ball in his hands with BigT setting picks will be a thing of beauty to watch - I can see him and BigT having good chemistry on some pick and roll/pick and pop actions

Coleman should go to NBA. Even if it is g-league. The only way he could have improved himself in college is to play 6'9" PG or SG like LeMelo Ball or Magic Johnson. He had a chance to be an all time Illini great but his dancing around in portal and hinting he might play at another University has ruined my memory of him. If he wanted to stay in school and maximize his NIL he should have gone to Brad and said I will come back for $1M and the playing starting SG. JMO. I hope he is successful NBA but he has to get tougher, shoot more within the flow of the game, and get stronger.

While those 1 for 1s look nice, those 5 are also replacing TSJ, Domask, and Coleman so it's not entirely the fairest of comparisons as the top 3 players from last year are omitted in that simple 1 to 1 eval. That said, I really like where we stand and this is somewhat beating a dead horse, but I really would've liked Sencire on this year's team, would give us much needed guard depth, and really improved our ability to play guard heavy teams. I also think Booth has the higher pro potential, but I think Amani might have a better season this year. That said, fantastic job done by the staff. Should be a fun and dynamic team to watch next year and I can see this being a 2nd weekend team if all goes well and the chemistry is good.
Absolutely agree on Sencire. His size and defense will be missed.

and having KJ and Kylan on the court at the same time will be amazing.

2 scoring threats that can also facilitate/run the offense?

It's funny, we've been lamenting the death of the traditional college roster where you follow players as they progress only to have created a roster that looks built on a multi-year cycle. I never would have guessed that would be how we'd go about our roster construction going into this off-season, but damn if it doesn't have me excited. Yeah, the key will be to keep a core group of guys, which isn't easy in this day and age. If we can, though, look out.

This season feels like it could be similar to 2019-20. We might start slow, but by the end of the season, we're a threat to beat anybody. Then, hopefully, with enough of our core back, go on a magical run like 2020-21, only this time we finish the job. I don't know. A guy can dream and the off-season is all about hope.

I keep stating first team to 90 wins. I believe with our talent it will be us most games. From our guards and length. Getting up and down the court will be a thing of beauty. This fall and season is going to be awesome.
