So if I ignore a member how does that affect my post count. Dan post someone I ignore post then I post do I see the first reply or do I think I am first.

If you're ignoring someone, the post count will appear to skip. If you're ignoring the person with the first reply (post #2), you'll see post #3 right after post #1

I just read an article by a BYU Basketball writer. He opines that Illinois is now out on Egor Demin. The writer claims that Arkansas, BYU, and USC are the leaders for Demin at this point. So, I'm modifying my earlier post #246. I definitely want the Illini to sign Kasparas Jakucionis! :giggle: (In reality, the BYU writer may not know any more than I do about the Demin recruitment... which is NOTHING!)

I agree that taking a flyer on Monsanto holds some appeal, if he will agree to a "come and earn yourself some tick" type of role. There is a chance he hits and turns out to be a solid player.

My main question for him is: how is he defensively? To make our positional size advantage work best, we still need wings who are quick enough to guard smaller players on the perimeter. Last year, that was Ty and TSJ (Maybe add Harmon to that list?). This year we will have Boswell in addition to Ty, and perhaps Tre White if he can turn it up defensively? (and I'd throw DGL in here, too, but he doesn't fit the positional size mold. Boswell is at least a thick 6'2"ish)

But it would be nice to get another solid wing with size that can still defend smaller guards. I'm not sure if that's Kasparas (I think he looks very good, but I'm not confident in his defense, especially as a freshmen coming in), but that's why I'm curious about Monsanto as a defender. (That's another plus for Lathon, too, in my book, but it seems doubtful that he would still be an option if we manage to land KJ.)
I have no idea about Monsanto's defense. But with his listed weight, and him still coming back from knee surgery, it makes me wonder if Monsanto might have some trouble defending the "smaller guards" that you mention. Frankly, I'm also not certain how good Lathon and/or Evans are on defense either. But, if KJ does NOT come to Illinois, both Lathon and Evans seem to be athletic players, so I would assume that they could/should be much better at defending those smaller (and quicker?) guards. If they can't defend, they won't get much tick playing for Brad.

The waiting for KJ to make a decision is difficult for all of us Illini fans. It will not be easy if KJ says NO to Illinois... AND even harder if the Illini lose out on other possibilities (i,e, Lathon, Evans, Monsanto) from the transfer portal.

Reply #101 with the 101 Dalmatians didn't quote you.

And you say the counting has been consistently wrong. How would you know that if you keep skipping them?

I'm not so sensitive that bolded words or people posting their reply number (right or wrong) bothers me.
Do I like the counting posts no. Do I get the point, no. Do I really care about them, no. Do I skip them and most other posts to only read the insiders posts, yes. I have a demanding job and 4 kids, and I come here for actual recruiting news.

Do I realize other people come here to discuss other things, yes. Does it bother me, no.

I made the post yesterday as a joke. Then people started posting the gifs afterward and I commented just messing with them as a joke. I’m sarcastic. I’m sorry you can’t handle that.

I never said your bolder words bothered me. I said you were obviously very sensitive because you felt the need to use them.

I’m not bothered by any of this. I’m not digging through past posts trying to find something to convince me that what I said is wrong. I think it’s hilarious and kind of fun. I’ve been laughing about this whole time. Probably the same way your mom laughs at you when you come up from your parents basement to tell her you posted the first gif on the new recruiting thread.

This is the last thing I’m saying on this, so don’t expect a reply. You obviously cant handle anyone joking around.

I have no idea whether Illinois will sign Egor Demin, or sign Kasparas Jakucionis, or sign neither player. Either player would be a GREAT addition to the Illini roster for the upcoming season. I go back and forth on which player I would prefer. Right now, I'm leaning slightly toward Jakucionis. If we do sign KJ, I hope that the Illini will still offer and sign Damari Monsanto (Wake Forest) to that 12th scholarship. (He's a 6'6" 225-pound guard who shot 40.5% on 3s in the 22-23 season when he was healthy.)

But if Illinois does not sign either Demin or Jakucionis (I wish I had a crystal ball and could see into the future!), I would hope that the Illini try to sign both 6'5" guard Jordan Lathon (Morehead State) and 6'5" guard Ken Evans Jr. (Jackson State) to the 11th and 12th scholarships. Both are tall combo guards, more often playing the shooting guard position, but they are also capable of playing some point guard. Lathon is an athletic shooter! (Look at his videos!) He made 38.4% of his 3s last season. And Evans shot 39.2% on 3s last season! They also were decent passers last season: Lathon with 2.4 assists per game, Evans with 2.9 assists per game. We already have FIVE big men on the roster, THREE wings, and TWO shorter guards (6'2" and 6'1"). Adding Lathon and Evans to Boswell and Gibbs-Lawhorn would make for a strong, versatile group of guards for the Illini next season.

A 12-man roster of Ivisic, Jakstys, Booth, Johnson, Humrichous, White, Rodgers, Davis, Lathon, Evans, Boswell, and Gibbs-Lawhorn could, in my opinion, develop into a very strong Illinois team in 24-25. It would almost certainly be a team finishing in the top half of the Big Ten, a team that makes the NCAA Tournament (and not as a bubble team). Saying all that... I hope that the Illini can sign either Egor or Kasparas!
Ever since we moved away from Watkins, and the whole Egor ship crashed, IMHO the dream scenario has always been Kasparas and Demari Monsanto. I Love Monsanto's game - Truly believe he can have a Plummer type impact. His highlight reel is IMPRESSIVE and so is his play - he just got hurt. Before the injuries, he was one of the best players in the ACC. His highlights and Plummer's highlights has the same exact feel. Have really wanted to see us sign both.

Doesn't feel like we'll land both though - it's been said on here multiple times that we are gonna pay Kasparas 1 mil - if he'll get 1 mil...it feels like we won't have enough left $$ wise...

If Illinois misses on Jakucionis, I honestly think that Lathon would be good enough to be the starting 2-guard for the Illini next season. And Illinois could also afford to add Monsanto to the 24-25 roster. I like that Monsanto shot 40.5% for Wake Forest (in the ACC!) as a healthy Junior. It was also my understanding (from where?) that Monsanto would be willing to compete for/earn playing time coming off the bench (at least initially) for Illinois.

Might've wrote about this yesterday or the day before...

Plan A seems like Kasparas...

Plan B seems like Monsanto & Lathon...

Really wanted plan A and one of those 2 from plan B...but that's what this feels like...

I definitely agree though, thinking about it, with the decision to go Kasparas > Lathon & Monsanto...
