I have no idea whether Illinois will sign Egor Demin, or sign Kasparas Jakucionis, or sign neither player. Either player would be a GREAT addition to the Illini roster for the upcoming season. I go back and forth on which player I would prefer. Right now, I'm leaning slightly toward Jakucionis. If we do sign KJ, I hope that the Illini will still offer and sign Damari Monsanto (Wake Forest) to that 12th scholarship. (He's a 6'6" 225-pound guard who shot 40.5% on 3s in the 22-23 season when he was healthy.)
But if Illinois does not sign either Demin or Jakucionis (I wish I had a crystal ball and could see into the future!), I would hope that the Illini try to sign both 6'5" guard Jordan Lathon (Morehead State) and 6'5" guard Ken Evans Jr. (Jackson State) to the 11th and 12th scholarships. Both are tall combo guards, more often playing the shooting guard position, but they are also capable of playing some point guard. Lathon is an athletic shooter! (Look at his videos!) He made 38.4% of his 3s last season. And Evans shot 39.2% on 3s last season! They also were decent passers last season: Lathon with 2.4 assists per game, Evans with 2.9 assists per game. We already have FIVE big men on the roster, THREE wings, and TWO shorter guards (6'2" and 6'1"). Adding Lathon and Evans to Boswell and Gibbs-Lawhorn would make for a strong, versatile group of guards for the Illini next season.
A 12-man roster of Ivisic, Jakstys, Booth, Johnson, Humrichous, White, Rodgers, Davis, Lathon, Evans, Boswell, and Gibbs-Lawhorn could, in my opinion, develop into a very strong Illinois team in 24-25. It would almost certainly be a team finishing in the top half of the Big Ten, a team that makes the NCAA Tournament (and not as a bubble team). Saying all that... I hope that the Illini can sign either Egor or Kasparas!
