Joe Namath says hiWhich is why no Alabama QB ever does squat in the NFL
50 years’s better than Ohio States track record with NFL qbs~50 year old examples?
Joe Namath says hello.....(I fixed it for you)Which is why no (recent) Alabama QB ever does squat in the NFL
Ya and I don't understand why we are not getting kids left and right. I mean Red Grange was the first ever superstar in the NFL (according to Papa Bear Hallas).......~50 year old examples?
If all we did was focus on the past 10 years of our 154 year history as an educational institution, our two major Illini sports programs would be the laughing stock of the country.~50 year old examples?
How about Bart Starr?~50 year old examples?
For those that don't like memory lane, please stop using definitive words like "never", "no" (no one. nobody, etc) has ever done, and statements that are of that nature. The universe did not just begin when a person became interested.Looks like we are about to take a trip down memory lane. Remind me to check this thread again in 3 days.

Many things trigger memory lane episodes here. I'm just poking funFor those that don't like memory lane, please stop using definitive words like "never", "no" (no one. nobody, etc) has ever done, and statements that are of that nature. FIFY. It's like the Assembly Hall, the second one is a poor imitation of the first. If all we did was focus on the past 10 years of our 154 year history as an educational institution, our two major Illini sports programs would be the laughing stock of the country.

For 18 year old kids, players that played 20+ years ago never existed. They don't know them and don't care. For those that don't like memory lane, please stop using definitive words like "never", "no" (no one. nobody, etc) has ever done, and statements that are of that nature. I would add Bobby Mitchell, Jim Grabowski and, let's see, uh, Hugh Hefner. What a sport!Avery Brundage
The Illini football player I think gets no respect is Al Brosky. 30 freakin career interceptions !! 30 !!I would add Bobby Mitchell, Jim Grabowski and, let's see, uh, Hugh Hefner. What a sport!
The Rev Jesse Jackson attended Illinois on a football scholarship.Scott Studwell. Linebacker went on to play for the Vikings. Also, best football name. Ok, maybe he shares it with Butkus.
Johnny "Red" KerrI would add Bobby Mitchell, Jim Grabowski and, let's see, uh, Hugh Hefner. What a sport!
There was zero talk of recruiting in the statement. It was a response to the "no one has ever done this as an Illini" or "a Bama qb" statements. And yes, I am aware of the site heading. For 18 year old kids, players that played 20+ years ago never existed. They don't know them and don't care.
Unless the player was an NFL star, it's irrelevant to a kid, and those kids are the one you want to win over.
They have offered kids from Illinois. This was one of the first things Bielema did during his 1st 2 weeks on the job. He re-offered many of the top Illinois prospects for the '22 class. Another thing to factor in is the academic requirements in order for these HS kids to actually be accepted into Illinois.I keep seeing all the posts about Illinois offers to players all over the midwest and wonder why no Illinois players yet. Then I remembered they haven't had a season yet. I feel bad for those players. I really hope they can get in a spring season, but man that has to be tough, especially on the seniors.
