Offense won’t be a problem … Tyler shadowed Gentry when he was here … That’s part of why Tyler is such an elite offensive mind …

Yaklich is a defensive specialist … If he came in … That’s where he’d specialize …

Clark was all set to go to Michigan this off season and that fell apart for various reasons … He’s been looking for an out for a little while …

Barnwell would be the toughest one to pull away IMO …
Watch us turn into a zone-oriented team with LY ( like the 1-3-1match up stuff in the Beilein years)…that would be amusing.

I realize our coaches would be pragmatic about schematic decisions; whoever is on the staff together. But that would be fun to see what develops with L. Yaklich.

Weird Tangent Alert: Who do you suppose dislikes zone defense more: Brad Underwood or Sean Miller? I’m gonna guess Sean?

Y'all got to remember this Tomislav situation has an exact blueprint on how to proceed, thanks to his brother. You ALSO have to remember that we are dealing with the NCAA here.... They aren't consistent, reliable, nor trustworthy in the decisions they make. I strongly suspect that whatever the issues are, they are NCAA issues, not University of Illinois issues.

By "we", do you mean Brad and staff? If true, that's not ok. 100% of the homework should have been done. I'm hoping that it was and that your statement doesn't mean that there's a huge hurdle that might not be cleared.
Lol..
You are saying that they should have known what the freaking NCAA would do? The most inept crooked organization in history..lol..ok

There’s more issues with Tomislav than we previously knew …
Not too worried about it personally. It's close to being worked out.

When his brother had the same issue and missed half of the year because of it, the alarms had to be there. Going into the season really depending on a freshman to handle a bulk of those minutes isn't optimal. I do agree that the NCAA is brutal. No way around their moving goalposts, but I do feel like we should have anticipated that.

Inept yes, most crooked no. FIFA and the Olympic committee make them look like amateurs.

Sorry everyone, I take responsibility for this. Just the other day I was thinking, I wouldn’t mind something bad happening just to get a quick @ChiefGritty appearance. Alas, here we are, but no gritty. Lose-lose.
As a Disciple of Grittyanity, I will weigh in for him during his absence.

This is one of the few times that I felt a little bump in the road wouldn't completely detail our entire program. Underwood has somehow completely reloaded teams and coaching staffs on the fly. Even the Skyy team made it to the tournament. Brad's the guy. We finally got that guy.

But as we read in the Book of Gritty, chapter 7, verse 3: "Only when your hopes are at their highest, will you be crushed by the despair of Illini basketball. So always wear your cup and you will never be hurt again."

Last paragraph made me laugh hard. Very nice.

So you are suggesting that they shouldn't have recruited him based on the crap his brother went through...maybe we should do what they did here in Kentucky and put up Free Big Z! Billboards ..Free Big T!...the staff has been working on these issues since he signed.

To be honest - zone might be our best defensive scheme this year given we’ll have some poor man to man defenders playing significant minutes- KJ, Riley and Hum all have their defensive limitations but can be good in zones with their length

Or we could just outscore everyone and not worry about defense - like last year

They literally can’t stop Morez at practice in 5 on 5
Good sign for sure. How has his patience and positioning looked on D? From what we saw in the U18, he had a great motor, but looked like he could be a potential foul magnet his freshman year (something almost all freshmen bigs in the B10 struggle with).
