I think the days of recruiting smaller guards end with Epps & Boswell. Lead guards who have special talent like Boswell/Epps/Belo will remain an exception. Trent is also special, but being undersized on the perimeter will leave you vulnerable in the Big10. I thought we'd make up for it with an extra big front court, but alas. We'll never have another Kofi, but BU teams of the future will probably be bigger across the board.
i think being undersized at 1 position, esp PG, is fine. but at 3 or 4 positions? no bueno. current freshman and the 2022 recruits are already addressing that, me thinks. Ty will give us solidity we haven't had at 3/4 in a long time and Goode/RJ already have more length + quicks.

it will be interesting to see what the offense looks like over the next few years after (moment of silence....) Kofi moves on to his next opportunity. i would love to see the new kids unleash fast break havoc and get back to quick transition points.

Curbello, Epps, RJ, Goode, Pods, Rodgers, Harris- all 7 could run a break, might be able to throw CH in there at some point too. throw in a rim runner or two and that will be fun to watch

Looks like the Vegas Roman Main Event Tix for November are going on sale on 2/28, and there is a presale eligible that looks like a separate code for each school, beginning on 2/21--anybody got intel on how to access the presale?? Inquiring minds want to GO!

It’s almost like our Dads shared the same brain. :)

Size with quickness is great but watch Michigan game last year to see what quickness does over size. Belo and Trent leave a lot of jocks on the floor.

Anyone else finally started playing with the BTT Simulator?? Lol. I took a stab at my predictions and got the following, with us winning out:

1. Illinois (16-4)
2. Wisconsin (15-5)
3. Purdue (15-5)
4. Ohio State (14-6)
5. Rutgers (13-7)
6. Michigan (11-9)
7. Iowa (11-9)
8. Michigan State (10-10)
9. Indiana (9-11)
10. Penn State (8-12)
11. Northwestern (7-13)
12. Maryland (6-14)
13. Minnesota (4-16)
14. Nebraska (1-19)

We would play the winner of #8 Michigan State or #9 Indiana. Even though the game would be in Indianapolis, I think there will be PLENTY of Illini fans there, and I would rather face IU.

If we win that, we would presumably face #4 Ohio State or #5 Rutgers, unless #12 Maryland or #13 Minnesota goes on a run.

On the other side of the bracket, #2 Wisconsin and #3 Purdue are waiting, with #6 Michigan and #7 Iowa. BTT will be crazy fun this year with a full house of fans, IMO.

Generally, I agree with you but then you can also get games like Rutgers too; if shots aren't falling becomes harder to manufacture offense if you're outsized. Best to have size and quickness, yes?

Which Illini do you guys showed the most growth with their time here and surprised you by their production?

To me Kofi is high on my list. Watching him play high school until now it I s like watching a different player.

Agreed.

It’s also been amazing to see the evolution of TF.

He’s always been a scorer, but his defense, leadership, and ability to switch from role player to alpha dog at any given time makes him one of my all time favorites.

Robert Archibald (even if I was rooting for the Scotsman from the jump)... Huge leap from his freshman year to a high second round NBA draft pick. One of my favorite Illini ever.

I would definitely rather be on Wisconsin's side of the bracket. So if we are a 1, I want them to be the 4.

Outside the top 4, the only teams I could see making a run to the championship are Iowa or Rutgers. But still a lot of basketball left to play. A couple weeks from now Iowa and Rutgers could be looking like easy victories while MSU and IU are hot.
