I really hate playing the crappy teams late in the year. They have nothing to play for. No pressure. Very hard games to win.

Can't lose to a team 45 GAMES UNDER .500
Offense had certainly plummeted back to earth the last week-plus. And Ross needs to stop playing Wisdom; his play hurts the team
teams we are contending with (reds, brewers, giants, marlins) all playing good teams this weekend so a sweep of royals would have been nice. must win the last 2.

No games are easy to win. It just feels worse when you lose to bad teams. Most of those guys are playing for next year, which is a lot more than nothing.

When you are a team on the line, you get to find out who has the guts for a pennant race, and who doesn’t.

We have a fun team, but they aren’t championship material. This race will be very instructive on where we really are In the rebuild. Bellinger has been carrying us, but barring a trade of Suzuki or Happ, he’s probably a rental. OF is a real strength of the farm. I think Bellinger is ”that guy”, but the economics of baseball make the waters just murky enough for us to let him walk. PCA is going to need to play. I’d try to keep Cody and deal one of our other long term guys if possible, but Happ is a solid, if unspectacular player, and Suzuki has been extremely up and down. I don’t think anyone will be tripping over themselves to come get either of them.
I think we could, but won’t pay them all.
The pitching staff is still a work in progress.
I think they can still win the division, but only because the division doesn’t have a real contender.
I’ll be shocked if one of the Dodgers or Braves aren’t playing for the title.

Hap cannot bat 3rd any more. The crowning achievement of a 3rd place hitter should not be taking a lot of walks.
I've had it with Wisdom. Can't hit and his fielding is atrocious. It compounds the problem when he bats 9th and Morel 1st. You might as well put Barnhart 8th and that part of the lineup can be the KKK.

6-4 in the last 10 games, passed the Reds and Marlins, nearly caught the Giants. Yeesh!

Get to the playoffs and get hot. I guess that is what everyone is wanting

they are still not playing quite well enough yet to gain ground on the Brewers
we really need to go 7-3 every 10 games to move up . they blew the game on Friday they needed to win

We get a look at old friend Javy Baez tonight.

He had a horrible start to 2022, but ended up having an ok season. No such turnaround this year. He’s been putrid from start to finish. 4 years and $98 million left on that contract.

I don’t even think that’s the worst current contract for an ex-Cub.

Kris Bryant has 5 years and $136 million left on his contract with the Rockies for a guy who can’t stay on the field.

Schwarber is batting .182, has a negative WAR, and has 2 years and $40 million left on his contract.

Rizzo has $23 million left guaranteed on his contract and you have to wonder when he’ll be able to play again.

For what it’s worth, for all the drama surrounding Contreras earlier this season, he’s posting almost exactly his career slash line and is on pace for his usual 3+ bWAR season.

The 11 game losing streak in 2021 right before the deadline was the best thing that could have happened for the franchise long term.
