Chicago White Sox 2024

In spite of their short comings, what Jose and Tim brought is what is missing from this team. All things must pass. Hopefully these 100 loss seasons are soon a distant past. 2026 or 27, i fear.

Jose brought the leadership. Tim brought the swagger. The current Sox team has neither leadership nor swagger. But they are extremely well-paid for their poor performance this season.

White Sox History Watch Update

The 1932 Season for the White Sox is so far the worst single season for the franchise. Finishing 49-102 for a winning (?) percentage of .325.

Here’s how the 2024 White Sox compare to that dreadful 1932 team...

After 89 Games

1932 – 31 wins, 58 losses

2024 – 25 wins, 64 losses

So the current White Sox at this point in the Season are 6 games (worse) than the worst Sox team of all time.

And should Crochet and/or Roberts be moved before the deadline... the 2024 record could sink even further from here.

Hey Sage…..depressing as it is keep up the updates…..

I will.

It’s not about trying to be negative or finding a dark cloud. It’s that the only thing this Sox season has going for it is – History... where this season is going to rank among the well-over one hundred year history of the Sox. It’s a measuring stick.

1970 was also a terrible year for the Sox. In some ways, worse than this one now as there is some young talent now showing up on the Sox in 2024. After 1970 new leadership came in and the Sox turned it around and by 1972 had Dick Allen and became somewhat of a divisional contender. They slipped backward again... but had that magical year of the ‘77 South Side Hit Men (before sliding back AGAIN).

Same thing happened again in 2005. One great year for a fine Sox ball club... before slipping backwards yet again right after that.

The Sox had great ball clubs from the early Fifties through 1967 and they ruled Chicago. When the Sox slipped backwards in 1968, the North Siders began to take over and the Sox have been playing catch-up ever since.

But true Sox fans are always there no matter what. Not even pathetic ownership over the years dulls the love for this ball club.

One thing about this 2024 Sox team. They sure find really interesting ways to lose.

Add another one from today to the books. Sox issue intentional walk to get to former Sox Jake Burger. And he proceeds to crush the stuffing out of the ball and send it flying out of the Miami ballpark to grab the win for the home team.

(There was some portion of Sox Nation that actually had to smile after that one.)

Burger has worked hard to become a Major Leaguer and he got his chance to show the Sox again today.

Kopech is a mystery. There is talent there but he sure can’t seem to develop it. Same with Moncada... talent without development. Add Jimenez to that list, too.

Hey... Maybe that’s the Sox new marketing slogan: We Got Talent But Don’t Expect Us To Develop It!...

If the three you mention still have value I hope they’re gone by the end of the month.

Not only they... but truly talented players like Crochet and Robert Jr. need to be gone ASAP. They both have high value right now. And the Sox should NOT risk either player getting injured in a meaningless game and losing out on the opportunity to get maximum return for both.

And if there’s one thing that Sox players seem to be experts on... it’s getting hurt in ball games. That seems to be what they're best at.

The Sox should sit both Crochet and Robert Jr. right now until they can strike a great deal to move them out and get young talent back.

If the Sox continue to put these guys on the field in a season that is a lost one... the Sox are even dumber than many believe Sox Management already is.

Hey……imagine that……Kopeck mixes it up and doesn’t rely on has fastball and strikes out the side for a save.

Kopech has more value to stay on the Sox than probably what they would get back for him. His stuff is worthy. He just needs somebody to get his game directed toward staying away from wildness and mixing pitches better. He still can fling it at 100 with movement. He's worth keeping as a project.

The guy still could be an elite closer with the right handling.

Surprisingly decent afternoon crowd at the park to watch a team that's playing .280 ball. Sox fans are true fans.

White Sox History Watch Update

Mercifully... the 2024 Sox season has completed its 98th game. Most of the pain for Sox Nation is already behind us. It’s All-Star game time – to be watched from a great distance away by almost every Sox player.

The 1932 Season for the White Sox is so far the worst single season for the franchise. Finishing 49-102 for a winning (?) percentage of .325.

Here’s how the 2024 White Sox compare to that dreadful 1932 team...

After 98 Games

1932 – 33 wins, 65 losses

2024 – 27 wins, 71 losses

So the current White Sox at this point in the Season are 6 games (worse) than the worst Sox team of all time.

If Sox Management has any brains at all (and that’s a risky idea) they must find new addresses for Crochet and Robert (and Fedde). These guys are wasting key moments in their careers on a ball club that has no chance of doing anything right now. Get something for them and pray for the best.

And once Sox Management sends these players out before the trade deadline... the Sox losses could come even faster. Sox only won 27 WITH these guys. Should be even more losing without them.

Sox fans continue to show up at the park in surprising numbers. Not huge crowds... but probably larger than the team deserves at this point.

Must be the food. Or maybe these Sox fans just like to watch the different ways the Sox have found to lose? Or maybe they don't want to run air conditioning at home?

No, hang on to everyone as long as possible. These trade rumors are all we have to look forward to.

On a more serious note, yes Crochet and Robert Jr are probably worth more now than they ever will be. The Dodgers latest offer for them is for two young pitchers a young catcher/1st baseman and a throw in outfielder but they want Kopek included. Crochet alone will bring more than that next trade deadline if he continues throwing innings. He is putting up Cy Young like numbers for the worst team maybe ever. Getz better get a lot more and better get bats. Right field 2nd base then throw in some pitchers.

Trade these Sox guys ASAP. Do not risk injury with them. Bench them for the next week if you have to.

How about it, Sox. Do something sensible. Maybe it might even become a habit.

Now maybe the time to fall back into the habit of trying to be the Royals.

Is the latest “offer” you speak of the Bowden/The Athletic hypothetical trade? If so, not sure that is an actual offer or just came out of mind of Bowden (though might be grounded in some reality. But that was for Crochet alone and not for Robert (and possibly Kopech) I’ve seen the same package connected to Skubal of Detroit. For those not familiar with it, the rumor I speak of is SP Gavin Stone, OF Andy Pages, C/1B Dalton Rushing (LAD #1 prospect) and SP Jackson Ferris (LAD #6 prospect, who they got from Cubs in Busch trade.

First of all, no way I do that trade for Crochet and Robert. I admit, I think that a lot of LAD’s prospects are often overrated because they have churned out some good ones. For Crochet alone, it is more palatable, but still don’t love it. Stone is having a nice season, but some of the metrics raise questions whether he can continue that kind of production. His improvement this year is in large part fueled by his reduction in walks and HR rates, but is that sustainable? I look at a K/9 rate of under 7 in MLB compared to never lower than double digits in minors, and have questions. Also Rushing’s lofty ranking is likely impacted by him being a catcher, something he hasn’t been doing all that long I don’t think. So can he become one in majors?

This year does seem to be a sellers’ market, but with the expanded playoffs that is likely going to be the case more often than not. Given Robert’s injury issues, might be a good time to trade him. And I realize the injury risks for pitchers, but if the Dodgers offer is the best they can get for Crochet, I might hold on to him.

Hadn't seen the Athletic 'offer' for Crochet alone. The Dodger offer i saw did not name the players involved or where they are playing. Thanks for the info. Injuries are part of the risk involved and Crochet Robert and Kopek have all been injured. Hopefully they have shopped Pham DeYong Fette and others and will get at least some return. The need is for players who can score and drive in runs but you can never have too much pitching.

It all comes down to what their plan to build a contender is and the timeline they’re looking at. If I’m trading Crochet, in the package back I want a guy who has the same type of upside as he has — or at least 2 guys with close to that upside. I don’t see that in the Bowden trade scenario from LAD. And Gavin Stone is same age as Crochet, so as far as timeline they’re the same.

If that’s the best offer on the table, I keep Crochet and either trade him in off season or see if I can extend him, which would add to his value next season at trade deadline. The trade him before he gets hurt argument doesn’t work for me unless the players you’re getting back have a no injury guarantee.

Robert and Fedde should have good trade value. I’ll be shocked if they don’t trade the latter. Pham and DeYoung won’t bring back much value. If they end up keeping Crochet, a rotation in a couple of years of him, Thorpe, Noah Schultz and the kid they drafted with first pick this year would be a nice foundation to build a team on. Hopefully they can get back some good potential bats through trades they make this off season.

Owning a Major League ball club is one of the greatest gigs in the whole World.

You can hire people to run your organization who don’t know what they’re doing... put perhaps the worst team in MLB history out on the field... piss off your loyal fans for many decades... and still make boatloads of money every year.

You just gotta hand it to some people. People who fail miserably at their jobs in terms of on-field success and still win the lottery every year for themselves.

And then maybe one day, sell the whole ball club and move them out of town for an even bigger boatload of money from someone else.

You just can’t beat fun at the old ball park! But only if you own the team, that is.

Crochet and Robert and Fedde and Kopech have to praying they have a new address in a few days.

Seattle Seahawks – I mean, the Mariners – score a touchdown with a two-point conversion against the White Sox in the first inning tonight (8 runs).

Looks like the Sox will have to go right to the Air Game tonight and forget about establishing the Run to get back in this one. How will Caleb Williams look in a Sox uniform tonight?

I’ve said it before. This is one of the most interesting Sox teams to watch in years. You just can’t believe what you’re seeing.

Jokes on me. I got cute and added a zero combined run in 1st inning to my parlay. Guess what leg cost me. 🤣

You know when you have one of those days when you just don’t feel like going in to work but you have to? Well, the White Sox sure do. The failing ball club looked like they wanted to be anywhere but at The Rate Field today.

They played without spirit or focus. They played without energy and just went through the motions against the Mariners. It was a yet another pathetic performance from mostly overpaid, struggling, embarrassed ball players. All under a clueless Owner.

And White Sox Management made a terrible decision to allow Crochet to start the game. It’s hours before the trade deadline and the dopes that run the White Sox allowed Crochet to risk injury and a potential good haul of young players to come to the Sox in return for trading Crochet. There was not one good reason to start Crochet today. And he looked it – his game was off.

Robert Jr. at the plate was swinging at balls a half-a-mile outside the strike zone. All the losing has made him lethargic and unfocused.

At least Lopez, Pham, and Lee have been trying this season. While the other Sox just sleep through the game – both on and off the field.

At least the Sox are getting good rest this Summer. The problem for Sox fans is that the Sox players are getting all this sleep during the Games.
