Chicago White Sox 2024

Firing Pedro and Getz or trading this player and that one or not doesn't matter if there is a move to Nashville.

Most every Sox fan knows the Sox need a new manager for 2025. But the next two months the Sox should not stumble through one day longer with Pedro still having that title as a powerless figure headed for the DFA list.

How about this: There is a guy right now on the Sox who knows the team insides and out. He is knowledgeable and can act as a two-month caretaker before someone new is brought in to lead the club next season.

And no -- I'm not talking about 'The Legend... Ozzie'. or AJ.

I'm talking about Steve Stone. Stone is level-headed and would bring a fresh approach to the young Sox players that will be on the field for the next nine weeks.

I don't know if Stoney is interested at all -- but for the good of 'Your Chicago White Sox'... he should take the challenge and run the ballclub for the rest of the season. And if the Sox do go ahead and set a historic record for losses it's not on him and no one will blame him.

Stone is just the right guy now to take the field and get one more... Save. He may have been a Starter... but we need him now for the Save.

Unfortunately, Stoney has said many times that he is happy with where he is and what he is he doing. All of these loses he cannot be too happy, and he certainly would be a step in the right direction. This coming off season is not coming soon enough.

Heck, if you’re going in that direction, how about Gordon Beckham?

Vargas gets his first HR in White Sox uni. Batting lead off too.
Was that a fleece uni? Keep hearing that the Sox got fleeced at the trade deadline. i think that the returns for players that were brought in to be traded went fairly well. Got players from the Dodgers organization. Kopek needed a change and deserved getting the chance to succeed with the Dodgers. Got someone for Eloy who i hope does well. Hope the Orioles have a good trainer. He should have been left in left field (got hurt anyway) and was at least as good as Benintendi. Still have Crochet and Robert Jr for the off season or the next trade deadline or the next.

I thought they did OK in the trades they made. Got two arms for Eloy and DeJong. Both are pitching in relief, so probably no better than middle relievers and both are old for their levels (guy at AAA is 26), but with pretty good stats. The guy they got for Eloy got a 2-inning win for Charlotte last night.

Fedde trade is tougher to decipher. He was one of the better SPs on the market and signed for next year at a relative paltry $7.5M. Not sure of Kopech’s contract, but like you said needed a change of scenery. If signed beyond this year, he has some value for LAD as a potential reclamation project. Pham I believe was a one-year rental, so while effective (believe he’s been starting for Cards) had limited value. In return they get a guy who was a top 40 prospect last year. I find LAD prospects (especially position players) to often be overrated), but seems like he’s at least an average player and has upside to be much better than that. If he ends up only being the former, not such a great trade by Sox. If the latter, they did just fine as I think Perez that they got in deal has good potential.

Your last sentence is the most important I think. As much as people are screaming about Sox not being able to trade Crochet and Robert and them losing trade value, I think it is just the opposite. Trade deadline deals usually mean a limited number of suitors and return players are limited to prospects. Certainly conceivable that in off season additional trade partners surface and teams will be willing to trade current young players in majors already, so not limited to just prospects. Not sure of Crochet’s exact contract status, except that he is team controllable. He is signed through next year with two more years of team options for a very reasonable $55M in total. So they lost no trade value and pool of prospective trade partners and players in return likely grows (and certainly doesn’t shrink). Just like at the trade deadline, they’ll be 2 of the best players available and can take the time to get deal right.

Sox Fans... Here’s another fun fact about the 2024 White Sox.

Believe it or not... the Sox had a stretch from May 4th through May 11th where they WON 6 of 8 games!

Just for comparison sake.. if you take those particular 8 days out and just look at the rest of the season you find the Sox season record is 21 wins and 83 losses right now for a winning percentage of 20%. Four losses out of every Five Games.

That means... that in the other 17 weeks of the Sox season they won a total of 21 games – or just about one win a week.

One win a week. And the way things are going now with this long losing streak... they’d just about take that right now.

For some reason I seem to be enjoying the post-game shows more than the games these days.

Anyone know what happened to Brian Ramos (back in Charlotte?)? I thought he showed some flair (for awhile, anyway). Are they not going to bring Montgomery up this year?

Last I checked, Montgomery was hitting about .220, so don’t see him seeing majors this year. Maybe they give him a taste as a very late call up. Ramos is still at Charlotte I think — and not doing a lot.

Hope they don't bring him up for him to be around this losing culture, rather have him sent to Birmingham and be around players and a manager who will soon be in Chicago and winning games. What would that do to his confidence and progression? Not going to happen because the Sox way is to rush players to the majors to fill a need and there are plenty of needs.

The White Sox are essentially just fielding a team of minor-leaguers (mostly not highly rated, either) now for the rest of the season. And some of the veterans on the club currently would and should be in the minor leagues today.

So the Sox will field minor league players against ball clubs who are in real pennant races and motivated to play well and make the playoffs.

The Sox are just going through the motions to satisfy the terms of their contracts. Winning is not a requirement – and sure won’t be with this mixture of competition.

The only real point of interest for fans now is to try to guess the exact number of games the Sox will lose.

To say this is embarrassing for the franchise... for the City... for Sox fans... and for MLB in general is putting it mildly. This is atrocious and hideous.

You're right. He shouldn't cover his mouth. What he should be doing is covering his EYES... Too painful for him to watch this.

All this losing has got to be breaking the spirit of these players. Many of which will not be in the Majors ever again in just a couple months.

Also, they should shut down Crochet and Robert Jr. the rest of the way. No reason to risk injury to either in meaningless games.

Grifol should be fired. How could he not argue any of those atrocious strike calls in today’s game (especially those on the rookie Baldwin)?

I and plenty of Sox fans don’t really care about what you contend is the “only real point of interest” for fans. Sure we’d like to see more wins last half of season, but the die was cast on this season awhile ago. Few more losses here and there don’t mean much in the grand scheme of things.

Some of my points of interest are:
— Does Vargas look like he is good enough to have been center piece for Fedde trade?
— Can Vaughn ramp it up in second half to get back on track and show he’s viable strong option at 1B?
— Will Cannon continue to show he has potential to at least be a solid back end of the rotation guy going forward?
— How does Ky Bush look in his big league debut and subsequent starts?
— Can Brooks Baldwin cut down on his strikeouts while continuing to show some pop in his bat (5 of his 11 hits thus far for extra bases
— Then, of course, there is the matter of how well prospects in minors progress in second half.

Yes, all the losses suck, but this season is no longer about what happened in first half of season or even the record going forward. I don’t care about the guys who have been at best bad and won’t be with the team next year. Rest of the season is about the future and how many currently on major league roster can contribute to a positive one.

To lift our spirits a bit... it’s time to compare the 2024 Sox to two great seasons when the Sox actually accomplished something wonderful in Sox history. Seasons which we in Sox Nation proudly carry around as healing gel to soothe our hurting spirits.

The 2024 Sox are currently 27 wins and 87 losses at the Game 114 mark.

The 1959 Pennant-winning Sox after 114 games were 69 wins and 45 losses.

The 2005 World Champs after 114 games were 74 wins and 40 losses.

The ‘59 Club was 42 wins better than the 2024 version.

And the ‘05 Champs were 47 wins better than the 2024s.

I hope all the losing yet to come in the coming weeks will not break the spirit of some of the young Sox players on the club now. Losing is a habit just like winning is. And it’s gonna be tough for these young players who are now trying to show what they have at the MLB level to do well in an environment that is set up for losing.

Culture is everything. And what the Sox have not had since 1968 is that Winning Culture they once did (a steady long stretch of winning seasons). That is the most important thing the Sox need to build for the future.

The Sox win!

In my text chain with my 6 close high school friends, someone on Saturday asked how many Sox lose and said over/under was 27. I texted back saying “Take the under. I think they win Tuesday.” Prediction was 40% hopeful thinking and 60% that I liked Cannon going for Sox and didn’t like Stripling going for A’s. Nice to see Cannon look pretty decent as he was one of the stories I mentioned I’d be watching rest of season.

They won one finally on my birthday. i did not celebrate either. i will celebrate a #28 when they haven't played #50 yet. Was hoping for even better news but that looks less and less likely.

You might be on to something here. If the White Sox win on each day a Sox fan somewhere has a birthday -- we have a great future ahead of us. In fact... they probably will never lose another game! Someone should tell Sox Management about this. This promotion is even better than Bat Day (when there was a Bat Day).
