The one thing I like about Kansas losing and potentially having a worse season than us (even if that means our win against them loses a bit of it’s shine):

It quiets the debate on whether or not we made the right pick with Bielema.

Kansas has 30 seniors. We have 9.

They’ll likely take a big step back next year.
We’ll likely take another step forward.

Josh picked the right guy.

I’ve never doubted this.

But what KU’s loss shows is the utter uselessness of preseason hype. Before the season started people start penning in wins and losses on preseason hype. A lot of these highly ranked teams will not live up to their billing and a lot of unranked teams will be better than predicted (our Illini). That’s what makes college football so fun.

This is true but we'll be in the same scenario in two years, unavoidable part of cfb.

The size of the step back is in your control if you can keep your recruiting balanced and make good use of the portal while developing younger dudes.

I think our staff can do that and hopefully we get to a point where 6 wins a year is a given and 8, 9, or 10 aren't totally out of left field when we get them

Kansas does appear to be an overhyped team that may turn in an abysmal season when other teams target them as a must win. Kansas is a generic cola that was masquerading as Coca Cola.

Our true test will be Nebraska, at their place, this Friday. I still feel good about the game, but some of the warm and fuzzies have dissipated. Nebraska does appear to be as good as the hype. Hoping for a great game.

Of course, I'm not looking past today's game. :hailtotheorange:

this

recruiting today is very complicated
balancing classes with guys from high school and guys from the portal and how you accomplish that . NIL plays a huge role too .

I can’t even imagine how large of a staff BB has to manage this whole process.

sure , position coaches are on the front line pressing the flesh, but many more are in the Smith Center doing the other real work .

Daniels is a very talented kid at QB, but the games missed from injury the last 2 years really showed last night (compounded by their new OC) when they needed it

yea. their D is stout

no real reason for their O to not be scoring 28-34 points per game .

let Daniels do what he does best .

Ope, looks like they're still delusional over there.

Maybe they'll start realizing they're just not a good team when they're 1-3 or 1-4. All that "College Playoff bound" talk from 2 weeks ago lol
I think Kansas kicking a loose ball around till UNLV picked it up for an 8 yard gain had more to do with the loss than the refs

UNLV beating Kansas at Kansas yesterday kinda sucks.

Nebraska appears to me, on the basis of their two wins against two teams who are very likely to be complete dogsh*t, that they are like everyone else after two weeks: an unknown quantity.

There should be no rankings in football until october 1st and there should be no rankings in basketball until xmas.

As one of the more rational ND fans I know explained to me, "Marcus Freeman might be a more handsome Bob Davie."
or a much slimmer and much better looking version of Charlie Weis

actually , he’s an exact modern version of Ty Willingham.

that program is a tough place to work . Kelly was so tired of it he walked away

Maybe I’m biased but the issue still stinks like a scheme/OC issue than Daniels. He’s being asked to do things that aren’t aligned with his strengths. KU started off like bandits last night with MUCH better playcalling. Then KU tried more vertical passing and showed UNLV they weren’t capable. Ended up torpedo-ing their run game.

KU has a good defense and a really good run game. They need to make philosophical changes to maximize their results.

UNLV also made adjustments limiting Kansas ground game in the second half, the yards per carry became more difficult. Limitations of Daniel as a passer was exposed.

I haven’t watch a ton of Daniel’s, but I thought his release is slow and his decision making and accuracy is weak. Can he beat any decent team that contains his running ability? Does he really project to the NFL? Is it rust or just fools gold, like many other mobile qb’s.

Am assuming IF he makes it to the league he will be a WR not a QB.
