The problem for Ty is that Brad can't really play him and Rez at the same time, or else the offense starts to gum up like a Mike Woodson coached team. And with this year's roster, it's more advantageous to have Rez's big man skillset eating up some of those available non-scorer minutes than Ty's game. He'll spend the year working on his skillset, enter the portal, get paid, and be a starter at some other P4 school.

I read your comments as saying that Rodgers should get playing time over guys who clearly are more talented than him (KJ, Riley, White), mainly because he’s put time in here for two years. I don’t think that’s how competitive basketball works at this level.
Some really wild takes in here. This was Ty's decision, and his alone. I don't doubt for 1 second that BU was nothing but completely honest with him on where he stood on the team and in the rotation. Ty is making the best move FOR HIM. Is this best for the team right now? NO! But now that the staff knows they can solidify a rotation that helps mitigate Ty's loss. In the end, the team MAY be better, maybe not. It's done, it's over. Let's move on. I-L-L
This is a bad look for recruits. You fail to see that side of it. There will be backlash in terms of recruits questioning BU's committment that he makes to prospects to then just go back and over-recruit. Some schools are not playing that game and something tells me that it will backfire unless BU maintains a high level program
You make this sound like this is all about money. What you fail to remember is that these players have pride and they go to these programs to play competitive D-1 basketball b/c they see basketball as an avenue towards a career path(whether the NBA or internationally). I guarantee that Ty wants to make the most out of his collegiate career and being Creaned into a 10 or 15 minute role is a slap in the face.
I see a lot of people here basically just accepting this as standard practice these days. It doesn't make it right or proper. We're talking about Ty Rodgers...the program guy and one of the couple of keepers of the program. How can he be one of our top leaders and be a redshirt? Seems to me like this was Ty's decision. Brad isn't making him redshirt. This is purely Ty's call. Not sure of your issue. Are you saying that Brad shouldn't bring in elite players because it might hurt other guy's feelings? That's just a loser's(not you) mentality. It's competition at its highest form.
If Ty doesn't think that he can play at a level that these other guys can....again, that's really on him.
The second part to all of this is the these coaches are screwed either way. If Brad sits tight and Ty unexpectedly hops into the portal, then what? The coaches at this level can NEVER just assume that his roster is returning.
Brad had to replace TJ, Domask, Hawkins, Dain, Guerrier, Goode, Harris, Hansberry, Harmon, etc.....five of those to the portal.
This is where the college game is. Either hop aboard or eventually get fired.

He was a role player last year. That statement is false. It sounds like you don't actually know what's going on. Ty has always been willing to play a role. Don't character assassinate the young man. He was one of the more unselfish players on last year's team playing out of position and doing the dirty work. On a team that is young and not "tough," we sure could use someone of Ty's caliber to rebound, do the little things, and be the unselfish player that we know who he is. But, because newcomers like Tre White and Ben Hummer are automatically put above Ty in the pecking order without earning their stripes and their way, who can blame Ty for being frustrated? Will Riley and Kasparas may end up being special players, but Ty earned his way into a better draw than getting passed by the likes of Hummer and Tre White

So many fans fall in love with try hard guys. Sencire was all effort, but I could kick the ball in the hoop at a higher rate than he could shoot it. Ty Rodgers was a worse shooter than Sencire. In 2 years as a wing player, he took ONE 3, and he missed it. I would guess he took less than 10 shots from further than 6 feet.
He wasn't an average shooter, he wasn't a bad shooter, he was a non shooter. He wouldn't even take the shot. He was a warrior on the boards and scored most of his points that way. I had hoped when he came in he would provide a lot more in terms of assists and be able to play some point forward, but that didn't happen. And quite frankly, his defense wasn't stellar enough to make up for the 4 on 5 we were playing on offense.
