Slow down and read what I put

0-9 with runners in scoring position when they lost 5-0 to the Pirates the other day

1-11 with bases loaded for the season

One stat was for the one game, other for the season up to that point

Good?
All good. Thanks for getting me back on track. My bad for sure. Now let's hope we soon get where we aren't talking about how poorly we are hitting with or without RISP.

This is a delicate topic, but it should not be confused with a complicated one.
Especially after Saturday afternoon’s developments at Busch Stadium during the Cardinals’ 6-3 extra-innings loss to the Pirates.
Embattled right-handed reliever Jordan Hicks needs to agree to a minor league rehab retooling to work out the kinks in his pitches, his usage of them, their placement and everything else that has gone awry with his game.
If he won’t, and he has the ultimate say in this because he has enough service time beneath his belt that he would have to agree to such an assignment, the Cardinals need to turn their focus toward finding Hicks another team.

If Hicks is with the Cardinals, he needs to go get right in the minors so he can be back to his A-game when he returns later this season.
If Hicks is not interested in ironing out his pitching problems in the minors, he needs to be designated for assignment so the Cardinals can attempt to trade him to a team that is better positioned to let him work through these issues on the fly in games that count.

now reporters are finally asking the right questions.......It's early in the season but this team has far too much talent to be floundering as they are........

Major League Baseball’s hasty extra-innings rule spotted the Pittsburgh Pirates a baserunner to open the 10th inning.
They took care of the rest on their own.
Out of the bullpen and back into question, Jordan Hicks allowed a leadoff homer to Andrew McCutchen and a triple in the 10th inning as the Pirates seized on the struggling right-hander for three runs. Two innings after rallying to invite extra innings, Pittsburgh completed their comeback for a 6-3 victory Saturday at Busch Stadium.

The Cardinals brought the tying run the plate in the bottom of the 10th with no outs and the middle of their order up. Pittsburgh right-hander Dauri Moreta retired three consecutive to cinch the win.

Once again , Nolen Arenado is the best fielding 3rd baseman I have ever seen........

Paul Goldschmidt is close to being the best fielding 1st baseman I have ever seen , at least as far as a righthanded fielding 1st baseman.....

Edman with the walk-off base hit to get the win for the Cardinals 5-4 in 10 innings.............

Bases loaded situations had been a painfully unsuccessful scenario for the Cardinals, and it looked like it might be part of another frustrating loss marked by missed opportunities. But Tommy Edman smacked an RBI single through the infield with two outs and the bases loaded to drive in the winning run and breathe a collective sigh of relief for the club and its followers on Sunday afternoon.
The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning, capped by the third career walk-off RBI for Edman.
For the second straight day the Cardinals were forced into extra innings but this time celebrated a 5-4 win in front of an announced crowd of 40,346 in the finale of the four-game set at Busch Stadium on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Cardinals salvaged a series split.

The Cardinals left 12 men on base and came up empty on their first attempt with the bases loaded in the final inning before Edman delivered the decisive blow on the day third baseman Nolan Arenado and reliever Packy Naughton celebrated birthdays.
Arenado went 2 for 5, while Willson Contreras (2 for 4, double), Nolan Gorman (2 for 5) and Edman (2 for 5) also had multi-hit days.

For the Cardinals and manager Oliver Marmol’s plan to get Jordan Hicks to find consistency, the situation will be key.
As the righty has struggled with command and overall effectiveness to begin the season, the Cardinals will look to get him into games in lower-stakes spots while he works through the issues that have led to struggles.
“We need to figure out a way for him to be more effective and usable. And we’ve got to have a good enough plan to do that where he’s comfortable with it and we feel good about it,” Marmol said before Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh that the Cardinals won 5-4 in 10 innings and in which Hicks did not pitch. “… (Saturday) he was forced into a high-leverage situation. There’s no way around that one. But figuring out a way to get him right.”

In Hicks’ outing Saturday, he recorded just one out and allowed three hits — one a two-run homer by Pittsburgh’s Andrew McCutchen that gave the Pirates the lead in the 10th inning. Hicks was charged with three runs in the 6-3 loss.
He’s allowed nine runs, 11 hits, walked eight batters, and thrown three wild pitches in 5⅔ innings across seven relief appearances . Hicks has thrown strikes on 55% of 143 total pitches this year.

He probably needs to be sent down so he can retool out of the limelight but I understand the desire to give him to chance to stay on the team and pitch in "low leverage" situations. It massages his ego a little more. The problem with this kind of thinking is there are only so many spots on the roster and if he is so ineffective he is taking the place of someone who would actually help the team. With their current record they simply do not have the luxury of giving up a position. The other problem is "low leverage" opportunities are not there all the time. This means Hicks will itch so infrequently it will be difficult for him to work on his pitches. Add to that, on the rare occasion that St Lou actually has a large enough lead, it's possible Hicks squanders the lead resulting in a loss.

Pru comes up with some interesting articles. Thing is he's up in the middle of the night so he can post them long before anyone else has a chance. The few times I find something worthwhile to share I have to come in to see if he's already posted it.

Edit- what a jerk.;)

lol.............I've been called a lot worse than that ...............here BTW......................./s

The old adage " early bird gets the worm " is still symbolic and noteworthy...............It really really is........

BTW # 2........Hicks being a 5 year MLB service player has to agree to be sent down ...........So , the only avenue's the Cardinals have with him are to continue to use him regardless of his effectiveness , limit his appearances to low leverage situations , not use him at all and lose a roster spot or DFA while trying to trade him...........Not a good example of a team player.....JMHO.............

So what would be a comfortable enough lead for Hicks to get the ball again? I would say probably 4 runs at minimum. Hopefully we can have a few more lopsided games, but if not, he's going to need to take an assignment to get game reps.

I'm glad to see Noot back. We missed his energy. Getting Waino back sometime during this road trip will also be a nice lift.

10 or so

If it's 10, we won't see him pitch again this year lol. We can't let a guy that throws as hard as he does just rot, we have to try to get him right.
I was under the opinion that Hicks only pitches on low leverage situations as the article implies.......If the Cardinals have any type of lead that is NOT a low leverage situation......I was thinking when the Cardinals are 6 + runs behind with only a couple to three innings left.......

I would be anxious if he was brought into a game with any lead ......Look at his stats so far this year ..........they are turrible......

they really really are.............................

I was kind of joking, but I have no confidence in him. Since he has to face 3 batters, that 4 run lead could be in jeopardy quickly.

That's the tricky thing...we could be down 6 and still in the game with our offense. I don't like to give up watching games, but I feel like putting him in down 6 is a white flag that's thrown a bit early and I will have to bow out.

I want him to succeed, but I think he is going to be pine riding for a large percentage of the next month. I am not sure how he will get an opportunity to fix it.

Yes I am aware that Hicks has to agree to being sent down. If he is any kind of a player he should ASK to go to the minors. As has been pointed out he simply is not going to get the very many opportunities to get into games. It's hard to improve in pregame bullpen sessions. The only reason for him to not want to go is because he is afraid he won't improve and won't have a chance to come back to StL this season.
