Man, RJ’s demeanor from the interview chair couldn’t be more different than he shows on the court. Love, love, love his game, though. I smell a breakout performance brewing for tomorrow…

17-3 would be historic. Not that we can’t win out, but with the 20 game conference schedule, 17 wins would be the conference record for most wins in a season.
This^. No one is going 17-3, IMO. 16-4 wins the title outright. 15-5 perhaps wins it outright, and at least nets a share. If we end up at 15-5 I'll be very happy.

20 games is such a grind when you add the BTT to it.
It's brutal. It was so 20 yrs ago when they played only 16 games. I recall those seasons when either the Illini or Wisconsin would win the reg season title, then meet the other in the BTT title game and lose. And both teams looked absolutely wrecked in that final. I don't know how they're doing 18, let alone 20, and playing to the level that, for example, we saw from OSU, Iowa and the Illini in the BTT last year.

I'm not even going to mention Michigan's 17-game slate last year, or that we played 4 games in 7 days at the end of Feb.

another outstanding presser from our outstanding coach....I glean more info from 1 BU presser than all the coachspeak presser's from previous coaches....

would love to set down with BU over some chicken wings and booze for a couple hours of layman BB conversation....
Kale and carrots for Undie.

Underwood mentions the mandatory 2 days off...What's the ruling on that? Anyone know?
They are allowed to work with the kids for 20 hours out of the week.

I could be wrong, but when the Purdue game was rescheduled (from 2/10 to 2/8), we likely played or practice on what should have been an “off” day leading up to the game.

So with the 5 days between PU and NU, we made up for the lost off day by taking 2 days off.

First of all, each of the 7 remaining games is going to be tough. Given that, I think it would be prudent to hope for 4-0 at home and 1-2 on the road --- for a 15-5 finish. That should earn us two BYES in the Big10 tourney and maybe a tie for 1st place in the Big10 regular season (22-8 overall).

16-4 would be outstanding. 17-3 would be stellar.
18-2 looks improbable.

This will be my first Illini game in Champaign in 25-ish years. A Christmas gift from my kids. Made it to my moms in central Illinois today and checked with the wife to make sure she brought something orange to wear. She hadn’t! Was fortunate to find one of my old Illini sweatshirts from the 80s in the store room!! We are ready!!!

InDaAz, remember that English is not RJ's first language. He originated in Puerto Rico and moved to the States for High School. I think he's pretty articulate in his second language. We lived for three years in a French-speaking country and I'm sure I sounded pretty tentative much of the time.

Oh, yeah, his English is excellent - so is Belo's. Hablo español también, and I can imagine how challenging it would be to sit in front of a camera fielding and answering questions in a second language.

What I was noticing more than his articulation- which was fine - was his low energy. He seemed like he'd rather be any other place than there. It was such a juxtaposition from his high motor on the court. However, you can see by the way he plays and interacts with his teammates he knows how to 'light up.'

While on the subject... what a pleasant, intelligent and well-spoken group of young men we've had the past few years! I mean, Giorgi (also speaking in a second language) had an electric personality, right? Having such likeable players makes rooting for the O & B even more fun. Kudos to BU for setting character as a recruiting priority.

i think that is Underwood's recruiting philosophy. Character has a lot to do with the players that eventually come here. He seems to look for high motor-high character guys as well as highly talented. They all have represented our school well, as led by Ayo and Frazier.

That sure seems to be the case with the three brought in this year, and the three in line for next year
