This can only happen if the Husker basketball team plays the Illini football team. And maybe not even then.

But seriously... the mood in Huskerland is much brighter now that the football team finally seems to be on a recovery path under its new leader. That mood has been missing for the last 20 years and after several false-restarts.

Some of those Good VIbrations might rub off on their roundballers. So the Illini have to be their Top 20 version and not the Penn State-Missouri-Northwestern version.
You're giving me the excitations

SH and I agree that some of the press have mush mouths that are hard to understand. My ears are damaged by rhe military and heavy metal concerts. SH has young ears and makes me feel better 'bout myself. Still, the press should speak up and speak clearly.

One thing I just noticed and is a bit concerning ... I am REALLY hoping Wisconsin proves a turning point, because we have alternated between wins and losses since Syracuse represented our second win in a row on November 29th:

L at #22 Maryland
W vs. #2 Texas (New York, NY)
L vs. Penn State
W vs. Alabama A&M
L vs. Missouri (St. Louis, MO)
W vs. Bethune-Cookman
L at Northwestern
W vs. #14 Wisconsin

First of all, that really shows the importance of that Wisconsin win ... however, it also shows how important stringing together an ACTUAL winning streak is during this stretch:

at Nebraska
vs. Michigan State
at Minnesota
vs. Indiana

We are MORE than capable of winning all four of those games and riding a 5-game winning streak before OSU comes to town and we travel to Madison. Losing in Lincoln and "bouncing back" with a win vs. Michigan State might not be good enough. We seriously need this one to establish legitimate momentum that we have not had in several weeks. At this point, the thing I worry about the most with our guys is confidence/mental toughness, and you get that by winning Big Ten road games. Let's do this!

The last half of our B1G schedule is a b*tch, so we better stack some wins at this point or we will be up against it come February.

Exactly ... not only is it just simply more probably that we will have a higher number of losses in February, we also need to gain back the confidence necessary to actually win some of those games, too! The talent is there, we just need to find a groove. I am hoping that Wisconsin was the start of something, but without being too melodramatic ... we will actually find that out tonight.

I agree with a previous poster. The mental lapses are what are killing the team. I hope the Wisconsin win helps.
đź’Ż on this. Plus, we do not have a go2guy on this team. Shannon was a role player at TexasTech, Mayer at Baylor. Hawkins shoots 25% career from 3pt. Line and under 60% from 2 and he's 6.10ft.. Role player first 2 season as an Illini. I am still Confused why a huge portion of this forum thought Rj Melendez was Jaden Ivey. He showed potential in 3 games total last year. Luke Goode is no Savior, he barely played last year.: Not 1 Go2guy Ayo, Kofi, Trent, Plummer, etc.

Shannon wasn’t a role player at TTU
He wasn't, and neither was Mayer at Baylor last year. But all of Shannon, Mayer and Hawkins are being asked for more as scorers than has been previously the case in their careers.

That's college basketball, your role evolves. They all have it within their skill set, it's just a question of doing it in harmony.

We are in the NIL era. Just that we have not figured out how to tie performance to monthly payments.

This is an inconspicuously important game.

Would be our first back to back wins against p5 opponents this year and a chance to create some positive momentum.

It's also a chance for our first true road win of the year - which is always a big monkey to get off the backs of a young team.

Ball movement will be key. I think we hit some big threes late in the game and come away with an ugly 8 point win, setting us up to get back to .500 in conference against Sparty on Friday.

This is not the Nebraska of the last couple years. They are streaky but have several players that might give us trouble. Walker is the obvious one but I'm concerned about Greisel and Gary. Both guys are very physical and can score in the paint.

Nebraska as a whole is not a good shooting team from 3 so goal should be to get them to jack up threes.

Not sure what to expect this game. We pretty much got bailed out last game with CH hitting 3s. Got to have well rounded contribution from everyone and not be a foul machine. Losing this game could be foreboding of dark times ahead so lets get a win.

That’s a can of worms there. You think players want floor time now? Incent players with money to do more they need floor time to do that. How would you incent players to be team players?

as others have said, players role change. Look at former Illinois player Warren Carter after his junior year, your comments apply not being a go2guy. It feels like you are saying players don't develop/change year over year.

Even the Nebraska of "the last couple of years" seemed to have always given very good Illini teams trouble, so I hope we are pumped up and ready to go!

We certainly can't expect 66% 3pt shooting from CH every night. But, if our offense flows like it did against Wisc. and we play solid D without fouling, I think we will get a W. Don't forget we had a few bunnies that we missed in that game that would have made the game even more lopsided. The quality of shots we got will fall at a higher rate. Come on Illini! Let's make a nice run boys!

It's not rocket surgery. Play the same D we did vs. Wisco, and make shots. Otherwise it's a L.
