Edey shouldn't even be drafted, he has absolutely no place in the modern NBA.

If Garza who IMO was a better player than Edey and at least could shoot, is a bit G-League player then Edey will be selling insurance in a couple years is my bet.
If Jakob Poetl can play in the NBA, I would think Edey will stick for a bit. I don't buy it myself, but Edey also performed really well shooting 3pt shots in draft combine testing.

Dwight Howard used to be good at shooting in practice too.

The issue is international players pushing him back (even after his case) and serious concern on his shot holding up.
THE issue is his age, you are not looking at him through an NBA scout's eyes if you're not seeing the scarlet letter "24" stamped on him.

But he's not that much older than Knecht, Edey, Baylor Scheierman, Tyler Kolek who seems to be moving up draft boards.

If you can't defend in space you're going to get exploited every time down the floor in the NBA. None of those guys can.

Other than his last name Bronny has nothing over TJ!

If it wasn't for the age it wouldn't be hard to squint and see a potential career trajectory like Jaylen Brown. A guy drafted more on his physical traits but who has the attitude, toughness, and work ethic to really improve the weak parts of his game to become a high impact guy on both ends.

Anyone who takes Knecht or Edey over TSJ is an idiot, I will say that much.
Well call me an idiot then because I think Knecht is going to be good. I don't like the guy but his game + measureables translate well. I'm not betting against TSJ in general, but if I take off my orange-tinted glasses, I would not be at all surprised if Knecht ended up the better pro.

Dwight Howard was a career 56% free throw shooter. Edey has been a career 71% FT shooter. Not too bad when you think about a guy like Knecht being a career 77% FT shooter. Teams have always used FT shooting as a better predictor of shooting ability than any one-off shooting sample. It's one of the reasons it was easy to see KAT becoming a sniper with or without the pre-draft 3-point shooting videos -- he shot 81% from the line as a freshman.

I think people are underrating Edey's ability to be useful in the modern NBA. Will he be a surefire starter? Doubt it. But he is more agile than people give him credit for (he looks lumbering but he tested out better than Coleman did at the combine, for example) and his length will cause issues. He's a hard worker and I would bet will understand he has to be able to make shots from distance to be able to keep his spot. If he can be a solid 3 point shooter (35%+), I see a path to being a Brook Lopez-type player, and that guy was just All-Defensive 1st team as a 34 year old.

I can see him answering the door for the Addams Family. 'You rang?"

Ant and TSJ same team is wild 🔥
I've been thinking that the Nuggets should try to get TSJ since they need someone who can at least credibly guard Edwards. Plus those Jokic outlet passes to him would be awesome.

Also the age thing shouldn't be a big issue for them since their championship window is already wide open and they need players ready to contribute immediately.

I can't either but in the latest mock draft I've seen, only 4 of the top 10 played in the NCAA last year. 4 foreign players and 2 from G League Ignite.

TSJ was awesome for us, and the eagerness to root for his success is even greater after the Kansas BS, but Knecht is an instant scorer with size and better measurements than given credit for. I hope TSJ is a future all star, but I’m drafting Knecht before him.

I would easily take Edey mid first round. Too much focus on things he can't do, but he has plenty of upside.

No Garza is not at his level. Edey was dominant for 2 years, dominated at the Finals against a lottery pick rim defender

Edey still has room to develop some of the weaknesses. He can also play a role for 15-20 MPG. Mid first rounders are a gamble anyway, not sure fire longterm NBA players.

I disagree with this take, but I know others feel the way you do.

At the combine - Edey had better times in all the agility drills than Clingan, better vertical, longer wingspan, shot better from 3, did everything better- and Clingan will be a top 5 pick. I don’t get the difference from an NBA scout perspective when Edey is clearly more dominant down low as well as being a better shooter and more athletic than Clingan, but I’m sure I’m missing something- but it seems Clingan is getting the UConn halo affect similar to how the Duke halo used to be.
