Minnesota 25, Illinois 17 Postgame

The path to success is very nonlinear. Id rather us spend some time here in 5-8 wins territory every year than our previous 9 win anomaly followed by a bunch of 2-3 win seasons.

End of the day we are going bowling this year somewhere with 3 more to play
It hopefully will not be on the heels of a 5 game losing streak to end 6-6. Winning at least two of the last three would be a good validation of this season.

Luke is a solid QB but if he wants to play at the next level he needs to get through his reads faster. It is predictable on where he is going to throw. Also his pocket awareness needs to improve. He needs to step up instead of going side to side and get rid of the ball if there is nothing there

OL has to be able to protect him when they bring pressure
Agree on Luke. He is improved from last year but still not where he needs to be. He needs to make another jump next year equal to or more than he has made this year in reads, pocket awareness and just plain getting the ball out quicker. If he can do that combined with some good portal pickups we could actually look to be in the upper tier of the big10 next year.

To me, this is the major issue and has been for quite awhile.
It might be time to re-evaluate the fit of Bart Miller and what he's teaching in BLJs offense. There is no way a line this size shouldn't be generating more push more consistently. We have big bruising RBs and a large offensive lineman. We should be able to impose our will and run on most teams yet we can't.

I keep trying to remind myself that we didn't get to this level despair in one year. It was a culmination of years and years of bad coaching and recruiting. With that in mind, it's not going to be a fast rebuild, it's going to take some more years to get this program were we expect it to be. It's just hard to be patient, especially when we have some success and look like a competent football team most of the time. But we still have a shortage of talent and speed on this team, which will hopefully come within a couple of years.

It’s not like Bart Miller is teaching his linemen to get blown up at the point of attack. Most of our linemen are guys without p4 offers and this is what happens. Our guys are big but slow

We should be favored in all 3 of the remaining games.
Crazy how hard Rutgers has fallen off. That was the scariest game I had circled in November after Minnesota. All three of those games are more winnable than today, and today was very winnable as well. The team needs to regroup in the bye week, and come out strong down the stretch. A 9 win regular season is still obtainable and very good for the program, even if the last two games have felt like letdowns.

I do expect us to be favored in at least 2 of the remaining games... Rutgers is even more banged up than we are, and although NW beat Purdon't today I still don't think of them as a 'real' threat... MSU is long the lines of Minny IMO... they played Indiana tough early, so they can still be a problem if we aren't on top of our game... We need to rest, recover, and get in line with the drawing board again...

The Oregon game wasn’t a letdown. The game after is usually a letdown. This one was after coming off a couple emotional games against Michigan and Oregon. I think we’ll bounce back.

MSU isn’t at the same level with Minny. Lol

We got whooped on the lines, but their RB was really good. He was hurting from some of our hits, but was strong at the end. Kudos to him.

with out NIL.. the portal won't help us on the line. We will be in the same if not worse position than we are this year.. not to mention how bad we need LBs. And if this team tanks the rest of the season.. we won't have much NIL at all..

Our bank roll better increase
It is more than spending money. You have to evaluate and hopefully develop it

We are not going to outspend O$U Oregon scUM PSU. We have to get creative in seeing if we can get multiple year deals worked out or something that can allow us to compete

Before the EIU game kicked off if anyone said we'd be 6-3 after 9 games 99% of us on this forum would have taken that in a heartbeat. On to the bye week and get some guys that are banged up healthy and get ready for MSU coming to town. 9-3 or even 8-4 would be a fantastic year compared to where we have been over the last 30 yrs. Arrow is pointing up, but not straight up. Gonna be days like this again.
