Right now we have one scholarship open, which would equate three open when scholarships expand to 15. That number has been reached with one true developmental guy (Jakarta) and probably two guys who you can call what you want but likely won’t be receiving much in the way of meaningful minutes. Coaches aren’t going to expand their rotations just because they have more scholarships. There will always be “developmental players.” Is it better to fill all those spots with “mediocre/average” college players with experience (cuz better junior or seniors aren’t transferring to a school to be the 13th man) or a developmental incoming high school player? Sure HS player may transfer before bearing fruit just as in the past when developmental players didn’t pan out and never play meaningful minutes in their entire careers at a school. Still need a certain amount of players on team to run practices effectively. Having a developmental(s) player right out of HS allows you to instill culture from the beginning in them to further program. Will all or any pan out or not transfer? We have guys transfer all the time now for all kinds of different reasons. Look at Booth and Davis. I have no idea how much they’ll play this year, but seems like it might be trending toward not a lot given the roster. They may well transfer out after this year.

Just because you can afford prime steaks every night of the week doesn’t mean you don’t enjoy a good burger or just a salad sometimes. Likewise there is room for a developmental player or two on college bball rosters.

I don't think so, but with 15 scholarships when only 7 or 8 guys play, there are going to be plenty of dart throws.

I really don't get the point of the extra scholarships. Hey more kids are going to get a free education, and sure a very rare few of those 14th and 15th guys will become rotational players at their original school, but mostly it will be kids bouncing around from school to school.

No more walk-ons so that is what these players will be, with an occasional development big.

That depends on how you define development guy. Coleman Hawkins?

Besides that, all conference level is a lofty expectation. If a development guy makes the rotation; I'd be happy.
