30 guaranteed. From the source...
We will see what happens and I would guess he wouldn't commit without some promise of playing time but Oklahoma while not having a splashy off-season actually got a very old group of veteran guards that have had some success at mid/low majors.

Kobe Elvis is a 5th year guy that has played heavy minutes at both DePaul and Dayton. Averaged nearly 10 ppg on 37% from 3 at Dayton last year.

Duke Miles is another 5th year guy that played for Alan Huss at High point averaging 17.5 PPG on 36% from 3 as they went 27-9. (Sidenote: Huss is a Decatur guy and I'd bet on him being a power conference head coach fairly soon).

Bryce Goodine is 6th year guy that averaged nearly 14 PPG game on Fairfield last year(2nd in MAAC) and shot nearly 47% from 3. He originally played at Syracuse and Providence before an injury and breaking out last year. He will be 25 before the season.

Jadon Jones is another 5th year senior from the Beach(tournament team) and averaged 12.1 PPG on 38% from 3.

They're also returning Jalon Moore who is a wing but will likely be the best player on the team and play heavy minutes. Jeff Nwanko(top juco recruit) did just tear his Achilles which lessens that competition some.

No offense to Fears but he's going to be a 17 year old reclass joining a team with 4 5th or 6th year guys playing their final season. He's going to have his work cut out for him to be better than them. It's also not like these guys are slouches they have all been good(2 went to tourney last year and the other 2 were in good regular season teams).

He’s good. I also don’t see that recruitment moving super quick.
Unless he decides to reclass to '25, etc...haven't seen anything that suggests that it's on the table this early, but he will be 18 by the time the 25-26 season starts and you never know with the $ being thrown around these days.

With that said, very, very few big guys have intrigued me more from a skillset standpoint out of the ones we've targeted/targeting.

For context, only two freshman averaged 30 minutes a game in each of the Big 10 and Big 12 last year. And only one other was even in the ballpark.

Roddy Gayle was not a freshman.

He will reclass

Sheek--are we in good shape with this guy? I'm starting to lose track of all these highlight recruits. Can anyone straighten me out?

If he is in HS he is playing 40 minutes a game. If he is at OK and stuck on the bench I don't know how much he improves.
So you think DGL would be better this year if he had gone to a prep school last year instead of coming to Illinois and receiving all that goes with that (training, practice against college players and some game action)? Highly unlikely Fears will play less than DGL did this past year. Playing big minutes in high school against players that test you maybe a third of the time versus playing against your equals or better players even if only in practice (and, again, highly unlikely he is stuck on the bench all season/all games) — latter seems like much better development plan.

right. continuing here, the primary objective for these elite kids is getting to the League. what is Fears going to get (game wise) from playing prep ball (vs. high major D1)? I mean, there's no comparison. we're gonna start seeing more of these re-class moves, no doubt about it.
Who's to say he's not playing for the illini next year?

Seems like it's consensusly belived that the three of Florida, Miami, Duke are all heavily involved with Cayden and Cameron. Don't know where we might fit into that list with Cayden...and the thought of them possibly not playing together...didn't expect it to be much of an option initially at all tbh...we'll see where it goes I guess...

Hope we can snag a visit though. Just got a gut feeling they might take a peek at the Brown kid from OTE (could be wrong but saw Derek talk about him the other day). Def. looks like staff is prioritizing that ball handling guard spot and looking to aim high...certainly think being able to get one of those top tier guys at that spot would be really instrumental.

dude, Piper laid this out a bit ago. you even cited him. "gut feeling" followed by a pat on the back? c'mon
Uhh...never tried claiming anything (if that's what ur meaning)...

Just trying to state the excitement of being in the realm of yet another five star.

This is probably more suitable then I guess...

@Indy Illini Fan Just one quick question. Not to long ago you said we would land Jasper and now we didn't even make the top 5. I'm not mad about it i'm just wondering what happened exactly.

Never said we were landing Jasper … Denzel never made an appearance …

I did say we were a dark horse and days later he was on campus for an OV …

It was always Bama and UNC out front after O and Cal left UK … If O was at UK with Cal … Jasper would’ve been committed this spring … He respected the relationship he has with O and visited us and gave us a shot … That’s really all we could ask for getting into a 5 star recruitment this late … And earlier in this thread I posted that I think he’s going to Bama …
