Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread

In the old days, this would have represented a Clear and Present Danger. Would have been a Red Storm Rising if he went to St. John's like Curbelo.

Sounds like Brad gave his Executive Orders, and Without Remorse, will move on.

Also - The Fears family was under the assumption that we wouldn’t be taking anyone who wanted to re-class from 2025 because that’s what Jeremiah wanted all along and we said no, better to stay 2025 and maybe we could have him enroll mid year and then we went out and took Riley as a re-class anyways …

Let’s just say that didn’t really sit right with them …
I can understand where they're coming from and it's a reasonable reaction from them.

Sounds like the Illini are doing what's in their best interest and the Fears family is doing the same. Unfortunately, sometimes those two "best interests" don't always line up with each other.

These are the types of "problems" that Elite programs have. It's amazing how far we've come. Wish Fears nothing but the best. I've really enjoyed watching him play the last few months.

Landing Johnson would definitely make losing Fears an afterthought. Hope that goes our way so we can move on quickly. Would just be a win win for everyone involved to get the situation they want.

We didn’t want Fears in 2024 …
Translation: Fears can reclass and wants his NIL bag now, Illinois spent its remaining resources on Will Riley and isn't going to start robbing Peter to pay Paul trying to divert the 2025 war chest forward (if that is even possible) for a player whose 2024 playing time ambitions it doesn't feel it can meet anyhow.

The idea that we refused him an existing open scholarship is of course laughable, these are more money-based discussions these days.

(These fake basketball eligibility factories that can slot kids into whatever graduating class they want are a menace btw)

I guess we’ll have to navigate the upcoming season with our 157 top 50 recruits and transfers. I hope it works out for them, Cotton…

I can't blame them whatsoever. It wouldn't have sat right with any of us posting if it happened to us.

Not a fan of what happened here, but on the flip side, these staffs across the country have to deal with kids that will leave over a nickel and won't think twice before doing it.

It goes both ways and circumstances ($$$) change by the second.
