Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread

I’ve heard Oklahoma with an early lead. I hope he’s getting a bag in which case I don’t begrudge him. If it’s true we probably won’t hear from him again until he enters the portal next spring.

If he can get a bag for reclassifying, then go for it. I don't expect he's physically ready, but if he was planning to leave early for the NBA anyway, no reason not to take money a year early.

This is a development year for him and he will likely get paid well to do so. I imagine we will keep it cordial and wouldn't mind him joining the team in 25-26 as planned if possible.

There is not a role for him in 24. Not shocked. If he leaves, wish him the best but not a huge deal with us the way we are recruiting.
One in the hand is worth two in the bush. I get why he wouldn't come as a 24, but there are no guarantees we get someone as good or better. But I sure hope we do.

Don't see where he has officially decommitted? Any chance he comes as a likely backup role . . . would be good for development. Assuming we can scrape up more NIL?

Ugh, the hurting... Everybody wants to rule the world. I was head over heels for Jeremiah. It makes me want to shout, but at the end of the day, you just have to remember that people run in circles. It's a very, very mad world.

To break it down again…these are definitely the kind of things I can do without.
I will readily admit that, I too was head over heels…In fact, I might even shed a few tears for Fears if he bolts…but mainly I feel someone might need to offer some advice for the young at heart, here. I believe in our staff’s ability to do just that…and sow the seeds of love whenever possible. It might be a bummer; but this is certainly no tipping point.

Regarding Fears …

This has been the thought all along that he wanted to reclassify … It was not a secret … The NIL opportunity is too great to sit in HS for him and his family and I can respect that …

They also can read and hear that we have 5 stars coming to visit us … Jasper, Thomas and others …

This is simply a case of he wanted to re class and we got better players than him right now and he wouldn’t have a role … They offered him to enroll at mid year and get NIL and redshirt the spring like I reported here months ago and why Brad kept one scholarship open …

The family ultimately decided with how talented our roster is right now as well as how talented it’ll be next year … Jeremiah wouldn’t have the role they thought he once would … So they’ve decided to re class, get paid and get him to a better spot where his path to shots and a starting spot is a lot easier …

Wish the kid and family nothing but the best …

But we’ll be just fine …

I’m not trying to crap all over the guy, but if he is going to reclass, there are like 7-8 guys on this roster better than he is. Maybe more.

Also - The Fears family was under the assumption that we wouldn’t be taking anyone who wanted to re-class from 2025 because that’s what Jeremiah wanted all along and we said no, better to stay 2025 and maybe we could have him enroll mid year and then we went out and took Riley as a re-class anyways …

Let’s just say that didn’t really sit right with them …

Strange since he and Will are very different players. Maybe the Fears family just sat on their decision too long?
