After the 2022/23 season, there was a lot of talk about not relying on freshmen and many comments on this board about reclasses usually not being worth it. Can someone explain why there doesn't seem to be the same concern for Riley? Is it just because he's a higher recruit (game changer)? I haven't watched him much so trying to understand reasonable expected impact.
I do but we will find out. For me, a top 10 freshman is a not brainer. A top 20 player like Riley, I personally only hope he breaks even in his first year as a starter.

I hope he enjoys this last year...
I don’t. I hope the entire team completely implodes and is a national embarrassment.

But Luke has a goode year.... Remembering the team success he had at Illinois.

From what others says, dude is smart and likely will have great success in life even if it's not playing pro ball

Good one. Except KB would've gone to Illinois in 1984 if he had qualified academically.

Technically, if I’ve read the ruling right, this is not the last of the Covid year players. Under the recent ruling, players such as Andre Curbelo and Adam Miller, who lost a part of any year as a multi-transfer player before the NCAA declared them eligible, will get one more year. This covers a five year window, so this means some players who would’ve otherwise exhausted their eligibility will be given an extra year. Not saying those players will want to transfer from their current schools, but given the NIL bags available, it wouldn’t be surprising.
Maybe we could get them to walk in. Ya know... Depth for practices.

Maybe it’s been talked about before on different threads, but i was listening to 670 the score today and Jeremy Werner was on and “reported” that Coleman wanted to come back, if things didn’t work out in draft process. Illinois basically said we need an answer now if you’re using your extra year of eligibility here or elsewhere, because we have a ton of holes to fill and we can’t promise you’ll fit in with the roster we build while waiting on whether or not he was staying in the draft or coming back to school. I’d imagine this is why he tweeted about fixing the deadline to decide date… because it sounds like he didn’t want to leave. Interesting.

Not entirely accurate.

JMHO, but with the talent on the roster, there is no pressure for WR to start putting down Lebron type performances. Posters, coaches, and WR himself have no idea what he needs to learn not to do, what he needs to do, and maybe even what he can do. There is a steep learning curve to climb which will likely take more time than we know since he has little to no experience of playing at the B1G level.

That said, I don't look for BU to rely on WR, but I do look for him to get the opportunity to get on the court early and often where he can learn and gain confidence....not to mention getting coached up off the court. Programs need talented kids willing to climb the ladder and go through the process. The whole reason for working hard to recruit kids of his skills is that they don't stay at that rookie level for long....especially if they have a burning desire to win. The fact that there are skilled, determined players up and down the roster is huge for his development. Personally, I don't expect him to start right away. I think his most valuable skill just might be his patience and humility....but admittedly, I have no idea at what level those assets rest. If they are at a high level, he could be coached to an elite level. How soon is the only question.

Just watching Davis' skill and technique in shooting the ball from the arc, the sky is the limit. What he will show in the myriad of other contributions is a big ? at this time....but we will know before Christmas.
I get the sense that BU spotted Jake and saw him as a dynamic weapon he wanted in his system, and wanted to get him on board before someone else spotted him. I have no inside info, this is just my interpretation of his whirlwind recruitment.

Can you elaborate? This exact topic is just very intriguing to me to know how it played out and how each side felt, I’m sure I’m not alone.

Coleman's family encouraged him to stay at Illinois if he was returning to college basketball, but I believe Coleman himself preferred to move on if there was an equal or better opportunity.

Secondly, there was NIL $ at Illinois throughout the process if Hawkins had elected to return (and for Domask). Underwood probably would have taken him back. He just wasn't going to guarantee he wouldn't fill roster spots if players became available. It wasn't a "you have to decide now or else" situation, IMO.

Like Domask, I think he’s coming in way underrated as a 3 star transfer. Thinking he’ll surprise a lot of folks just like Marcus did.
