I very much dislike Purdue so hate to defend him, but from what I hear this is not far from the truth. Was not a one-time thing but rather several occasions where Catchings wanted out, then back in, then out again. Think Painter just finally felt enough was enough.
Many of us have seen Painter for over 2 decades, has always been a cool/classy dude. The last 5 years he has put together top 5 teams consistently out of 330 Div 1 teams. He is an elite PROGRAM builder.

He will find other players, many ranked lower that fit his system. Catchings had options, I'm sure there was a constant pull to find a better situation. Good luck to both.

Some people have Riley penciled in as a starting wing. I don't. In the first place, we don't have him yet. In the second place, he's sooooo skinny he needs Fletch badly; he needs to get bigger and stronger. KJ has a stronger build and has played lots of games against grown men in Euroleague competition. As one of the gurus said, "He may be the most experienced freshman in the country." And I have Tre penciled in as the other wing, I want three starters with major college experience. That said, I expect Riley will get mucho minutes, and probably more as the season progresses. Okay, fire at will.
several people have stated this take on here but I don’t get it- was Cam Christie to skinny as a freshman last year to be effective? Riley is a legit 6’9 now and he’s going to play in the perimeter- obviously shooting doesn’t rely on strength, he’s quick enough to get in the lane and shoot over people

On defense- he’s going to be 3-4 inches taller than 95% of the players he’s guarding so even if they back him down he will still be able to block/disrupt their shot

I agree he will improve by getting in a college S&C program - fletch will help with that - I just don’t agree he can’t be effective until he’s stronger - if he was DGL size, I would agree or if he was a big, I would agree, for the position/role he is playing and his size- I think he can be very effective out of the gate

I agree. While added strength will help him, he can be effective w/o it. Hope we get him.

I know very little about the kid at this point, but I'd really like a player named Jasper on the team.

I would agree with you if we didn't have White and KJ on the roster. I just can't see KJ coming off the bench, and White is a battle tested junior.

I call bs but I think it's fan voted so
Think that is selling T-Shirts and other athlete branded gear. I'd guess those sales get nowhere close to what a Fortune 500 insurance company, big donor or collective will provide via contract. But it does show Purdue has decent fan support.

What time (Central time) will Riley be making his announcement and where--if anywhere--can we watch the hat trick? Thanks in advance for the help.

Well of course the team that makes the National Championship game is gonna sell more t-shirts. I still wear a 1998 Big Ten Champions t-shirt that I ran out to buy back then, but I don’t recall ever rushing out to buy any apparel during the Groce era.

You have battle tested uppper classmen who have done well in the college game. As you go from high school EBYL to High Div College the players are bigger, longer, stronger, smarter and experienced. You can't skip those steps, I believe all the top transfers, Euros, and freshmen will get time they prove going agaisnt each other in games, then eventually how they perform in games.

Domask is a good example, I believe he was hurt during part of the European trip. No one knew his impact, some felt Goode would start and he would back-up Goode. No one could predict that he would eventually play a hybrid-PG role and be 1st team All-Conference on an elite 8 team. White or Humrichous might be in that position to really break out, possibly another player.

I’m not the coach but given the quantity of very good shooters on this roster I think we are going to shoot a TON of threes this year. White certainly has that ability, but he is very proficient in the midrange. I like that and I want that to be a big part of our offense. I have no problem letting it fly from the arc as long as they are quality looks, but I don’t want to become BYU either where we are totally dependent on it.

Tre has a skill set that helps give our offense more balance. JMHO.

I have no idea how ready Riley will be (or if we will land him). But I swear 50% of posters here are under the impression that we’re putting together a weight lifting team.

It’s basketball. Players with different body types can be successful.

You don't bring in a top 10 recruit and have him come off the bench. It's really as simple as that.

Skinny basketball players are successful at every level. This isn't football.
