Harv Schmidt was able to keep the program fairly competitive with players like Dave Sholz, Mike Price, Jodie Harrison, Randy Crews, Fred Miller, Rick Howat, and Greg "Breakfast" Jackson.

Then, with the help of assistant Nat Frazier, he lined up formidable recruiting classes in 1969 and 1970 with Nick Weatherspoon, Nick Conner, Alvin O'Neal, Billy Morris, and Kris Berymon.

After that, the wheels fell off. There was a lengthy NCAA investigation. Recruiting, and the program, hit rock bottom.
Very accurate assessment of the "Marvy Harvey" Schmidt years. Well done.

And don't forget the one year tenure of Clean Gene Bartow. He signed Audie Matthews, a Parade Magazine All-American but they only went 8 and 18 that year. Maybe he could have turned things around in time, but the opportunity to go to UCLA was too tempting, and Bartow jumped ship. Audie had a nice career for the Illini...played on Lou Henson's first 3 teams, and was MVP twice. https://basketballmuseumofillinois.com/hall-of-fame/players/19-hof-players/1326-audie-matthews/

That’s the idea but I think Jobu preferred rum and cigars!

Just following the logic here- the only thing Painter saying this accomplishes is to make himself look good and throw the kid under the bus and make it sound like you broke up with him

Which can only mean -> Painter is still pissd that he lost his highest ranked recruit ever

Which probably means -> It didn’t go down exactly like this. If he was truly ready to move on from the kid, what is the point to airing this?

When Skyy left in the middle of the season, literally quit on his team - Brad never said a bad word about him, in fact made sure he got his NIL still, which he didn’t have to do

I’ll take Brad’s approach every time rather than pump your chest to the media to make a kid look bad

Joel Goodson

dawgville

Pretty good!

Gonzaga might be the leader though...On3 has Gonzaga at 70% prediction...

the ratings service that has Fears at #59 doesn't have much credibility with me. 70%? smh, I marvel at their model. that said, Khamenia has myriad great options. you'd be foolish to not take the field over us.

I was a student and remember him coming and playing. Audie-matic was a name I remember him being referred to as… and he was!
