Kylan is going to have to be WAY better than he was at Zona for that to happen. Hope it happens, but that would be a major, major jump.
With at least three other alpha dogs in the lineup most of the time, I am not sure there is another PG in college hoops who could have contributed more to the Cats success as a 17-18 yo over two seasons than Kylan. Having watched Az. play a couple of dozen times over his two seasons, he is certainly capable of doing anything asked on the floor. Now, back home in Champaign, getting "Fletched", and with BU giving him more rein with teammates of elite talent, a huge step up is not out of the question. My only concern is does he have the quickness and athleticism to show out at an NBA level. Making no claims to know for certain as that is a fool's errand, we will just have to wait and see. What I do know is that a rising tide floats all ships....and he can be the tide.

In tandem with Kasparas and White, we may see shades of the '05 Illini !!! It will also give DGL an opportunity to steady his play without playing hero ball....just hit open shots and he will be a hero. The frontcourt will be extremely young and inexperienced....but also extremely talented.

Just came across an AZ podcast where the 2 guys constantly ranted for the first 10 minutes of the vid about how...

ILL has no place in CBB, their program is way better than ours, and that they have...in their minds...still a great chance at landing Riley.

And then came across a poster who claimed we're getting Riley because we're "desperate." (Might be the same thing Brosky was talking about 😂 )

😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 So amusing...I gotta say...
Let’s stay desperate

But ... If Boswell is a multi year guy, KJ is a multi year guy, Riley is a 2 and done ... And we land one of these 5 stars we are after ... Because those are your 4 starters right there plus a big ...

I am not REMOTELY an expert, but this is absolutely possible. It is INCREDIBLY difficult to get drafted. Not like other sports with tons of rounds. You have to be uber elite.

I hope one of those guys plays well enough to get drafted. That would probably indicate we had a great year. Just pointing out that it is HARD to get selected.

On top of that, these MASSIVE NIL paydays have changed things dramatically. Unless you are going at the top of the draft, NIL is super appealing.

The first quote is from Indy. I completely botched that.

LOL....as an Arizona alum and athlete, and an Illini hoops fan for the past 70 years, I can tell you for certain that there are delusional fans in every fanbase.

Sitting in the bleachers at Bear Down Gym in the Fall of 1965, I could not ever imagine the Cats would ever compete with my beloved Illini on the hardwood. I even made my only trip to Carbondale to see them play SIU over Xmas break when they pulled out a struggling win against a team that was elite in the Walt Frazier days.

But things have changed. Along came Fred Snowden and Bob Elliott, a beautiful new McHale center, and finally Lute Olson. Also, all the athletic programs at Arizona are going to pay the price of some critical accounting errors that seem to have lost 240 million dollars under the guidance of AD Dave Heeke. I don't claim, like many other posters across the internet, to know how to solve that problem...but it can't provide anything positive over the course of the next decade or two.

What I do know is that for the past handful of seasons, Brad Underwood and Josh Whitman slowly elevated the hoops program back to a level at which I think it belongs....and appear to have done so with hard work and great coaching....and without cheating (something of which I have no tolerance). They have locked in the support of a fanatical fanbase in a basketball crazy state and will ride that wave for another decade or more. There is no telling how many years I will get to enjoy watching elite Illini teams play in the original Assembly Hall (I saw the first game there in 1963), but it is an opportunity for which I will be forever grateful in my twilight years.

Thank you Josh Whitman, Brad Underwood, and Illini donors.

The level of recruiting and the talent that we're in on right now...on all fornts - HS, International, Portal...

This is truly special...

So now I guess the dream starting five for 25-26 would be: Kylan, KJ, Jasper, Riley, Ivisic/Morez?

And if Riley goes one and done: Kylan, KJ, Jasper, Ty/Tre, Ivisic/Morez?

As I've said before, we've had three guard starting fives before and done pretty good with them. This would be FANTASTIC.

Also, I don't really see a problem with Fears not starting his freshman year...same with DGL. Just because you're a top 50 recruit doesn't automatically mean you have to start your freshman year. I mean...Morez likely won't this year...and you always have the choice to earn it.

With that starting five, and if we can keep/build a quality bench unit, that team truly would have a chance to be really good!
Name checks out...I like your thinking but we haven't found out about Riley yet and you're already penciling in Jasper...but I will agree we will have some fun figuring out how the lineups will shake out...you don't happen to be related to a poster named...the kid...?

It's really quite strange the way Mike White is a more sainted, untouchable figure among Illini fans than Lou Henson.

Now, my natural inclination is to engage in an overcomplicated (but correct) conspiracy theory about why this is Ron Guenther's fault, but instead let me just say that Lou Henson was great!
Mike White is held in higher regard than Lou? First I’ve heard of it.

Yes we're penciling in two guys we haven't gotten and then assuming nobody transfers or goes pro. The chances are all those things happening are extremely low.

He ain't coming here to sit the bench ...

But ... If Boswell is a multi year guy, KJ is a multi year guy, Riley is a 2 and done ... And we land one of these 5 stars we are after ... Because those are your 4 starters right there plus a big ...

And then you've still got Ty, Tre, CB, DGL, Rez ... That's a lot of mouths to feed ...

Honestly, I don't see Ty giving up his starting spot this year ... Not right away ... Brad trusts that kid ... And as senior ? Doubt he losing it that year either ... It's gonna be a BATTLE ...

Something about that #20 jersey and dependability ... DMFW ...

I just don't see a path to Fears starting in that scenario ...
I’d love to know who the first poster was to coin “DMFW” way back when. It is perfect and he will forever be DMFW, which is quite a tribute to him and something he can tell his grandkids about when he retires from the police force.

There’s certain guys who think Kylan could have a good enough year to go pro … Jeremiah is gonna come in and play … But you can have those 3 and run offense through all 3 without issue …

And as for the other two … Playing time gonna be tough to come by and we will recruit over you if you don’t perform …
Understand, but disappointed that DGL shows loyalty by staying and then will get rewarded by reduced minutes.
