Wondering if the Riley commitment was delayed, in part, so that the staff could have time to talk some of the other players into staying with the Illini?

You think our past season first practice was intense? For sure, it was, watch the highlights and you can get a firsthand glimpse, but think about next year’s opening practice.

We can have a 7’1”. 6’9”, 6’9”, 6’6” and 6’2” probable starting lineup who are all great shooters with 5 bench players who are all great players in their own right and who will carry a chip on their shoulders.

WOW. This will be insane.

Uh was that a Ty jumper I saw at 0:38??? 👀 Unless my eyes deceive me. On the first day of practice LAST YEAR?!? Looked great, good rotation (actually looked fairly deep, perhaps a 3, but you can’t tell for sure from the limited field of view). Man, must be some case of the yips in games or something.

I would think he’s not a starter next year. He’s very limited at this point. Not a great player. High effort and energy, yep he’s got that.

Ty is a great player, confidence will come.
I’ve seen video of him shooting as a high schooler and it looked good then, too, but this is the most recent example I’ve seen of a good looking Ty jumper. (Someone who has actually seen him extensively in practice can obviously provide better insight here)

I don’t go to that many games, but for the several I went to last year, I’d always try to keep my eye on Ty during warmups just to see if he’d take a few shots from beyond the paint. He almost never would, from what I saw, although he did once that I caught and it DIDN’T look good - looked awkward.

So my working theory is there’s something about the crowds at games at the high major college level that he still hasn’t gotten comfortable with. Obviously just a guess, and maybe someone who actually has better info can correct me, but of course Im rooting for him to work it out asap, for his own sake as much as for the team’s.
