Seems to me our recent history has been that the longer a recruitment last the more likely we are not going to land them. Oh and I know in this particular case my name doesn't check out. Hope we got this one nailed down.

Sleepers guys think Riley goes to Illinois…. Said he reminds them of Matt Mayer… think if we can land this kid that solidifies us as a lock tourney team and competitive for a double buy in the B1G tourney.. I’d consider that a huge success. If we can hold onto the likes of Booth, Kylan, White, Davis etc. than 2025-26 we are a top 10 team with Fears.

I see a bit of Michael Porter Jr. or Kelly Oubre. All being said, many feel Illinois has the best opportunity to play now and for a proven Coach that will play to you'd strengths Kentucky offers the brand abd history of high draft picks. But Pope isn't proven like BU and Calipari success isn't his.
Arizona might be in the mix, they have been recruiting him for awhile. But again Illinois may offer more PT and NIL.

I think your notion of what it takes to be a lock tourney team is skewed. It's not that high a bar and I'd be extremely disappointed if we didn't make.it even if the roster doesn't change from what it is now.

if riley reclassifies to 2024 hes 100% coming to illinois. If he doesnt hes going to NBL or kentucky. We want him for 2024 and he will start at SF, UK wants him for 25

Matt Mayer without the attitude and giving full effort was one heck of a player. Probably NBA caliber. He won us multiple games. However, his shot selection, sometimes lazy approach to offense and not getting back on defense made him a liability. When Ty/CH were talking about selfish players, I'm pretty sure that MM was one of the targets.
If we get that type of player from a talent perspective and he's max effort from whistle to whistle.....Sign. Me. Up.
