Jayson Tatum comes to mind in terms of style of playDoes anyone have a comp for Will Riley? I used the search function, but didn't find much.
That's why I like the comparison. Riley looks like an excellent outside shooter, but he also scores in so many other ways, including floaters, bank shots, and on and on.George Gervin ha ha ha the Iceman cometh, dude got of bed in the morning hot, hitting jumpers, floater and crazy bank shots. But damn did he a hamburger or two...
Because heās theWhy does he have highlights of being on the john?
Heās a really talented string bean. Would love to see what he could become after being Fletched. A really talentedā¦ asparagus?Watched some Riley highlights again simply because I did not see a great basketball player....other than he loves to shoot difficult shots. What I did see is a talented shooter for his size...which can lead to an extremely valuable asset if properly developed.
But many of the shots I saw him take in a HS game where he scored 42 would come back in his face....simply poor/difficult shots selection too often.
Regardless, IMHO, there is elite talent that needs a guiding hand to mold into a team player that can be a dagger or a facilitator anytime he is needed to do either. No one knows how quickly he will adapt and fit into team play, but I sure would love to see BU have the opportunity to do just that!!!
Anyone can see the talent and skills Will Riley possesses. And anyone should see the molding that needs to take place when he takes the court with 9 other guys that possess skills of a similar ilk....and some will have the mindset, size, quickness, and athleticism to make his day miserable if he does not learn to recognize where his teammates are, their elite skills, and get them the ball quickly...while taking pride and working hard on the defensive end.
I sure hope he soaks up great coaching and playing with talented teammates....in the original Assembly Hall.
Riley isn't reclassing up like your other examples. He's reclassing back to what would be his high school senior class. Canadians go to grade 13 in college prep. He'll be old for an incoming freshman.I want to preface this by saying I like Brad and I'm excited about the talent on the upcoming roster and I'm excited about the potential of adding an extremely talented wing in Riley.
However, I've seen Riley ranked nowhere near the consensus top player of 25(Dybantsa is the top ranked 25). Riley is a legitimate 5 star in 25 but for the 25 class is 21 on 247, 15 on 247 comp, 10 on ON3, 16 on Rivals, and 24 on ESPN.
Also, he if he comes to Illinois he's reclassing which means he would likely drop to the 30s range for 24.
Obviously, very talented and people here seem to like him but it's not a guarantee that a 5 star reclass makes an impact as a freshman or even outplays 2 talented 3rd year wings in Ty and Tre.
For example, Kylan Boswell was a top 15 recruit that reclassed and played 15 minutes as a freshman behind Kerr Krissa and Courtney Ramsey. Jarin Stevenson was a 5 star recruit that reclassed and played 15 minutes for Alabama last year. Also, Khristian Lander was a 5 star reclass to Indiana and was terrible.
The Chris Cornell version of just about anything is the best. Loved that guy.Listen to the Chris Cornell version if you haven't heard it.
Gervin is a really good comp. Appearing to be skinny but got to wherever he wanted on the court, mobile, fearless, shot makerI watched Marcus play in H.S. Riley is much more offensively-skilled at the same stage. Liberty was a better run-jump athlete. Liberty was a SF who could play any front line position. Riley is a SF that could play SG.
Durant, Porter, and (for the old folks) George Gervin are better comparisons for Riley's style of play.
I jumped on board at Audie Matthews. Thanks for sharing this list. It's a great memory boosting device for us older, early onset guys. I got on this train at Nick Weatherspoooooon (and the lesser known Nick, Conner). Audie Matthews, was the player that changed the trajectory of the basketball program, IMO. Opening up the I-57 pipeline. It has been a few years since I made that RT from Champaign to the Miracle Mile. Is it still drab and desolate? I would look forward to catching a glimpse of the C-U "skyline" just after I passed Rantoul.
I agree. To add to it, in the highlights I saw, mostly ebl, he was the tallest player on the court. Also he looks really skinny to me. Fletching is necessary. He won't get those shots at the college level. Except the Steph Curry 3s he likes to take. He obviously has talent. MLT is very high on him. So I will defer. Let's see what happens in practice with 2nd and 3rd year college players.Watched some Riley highlights again simply because I did not see a great basketball player....other than he loves to shoot difficult shots. He probably wouldn't take the same type of shots against taller defenders. I know I never did. I'm sure he can adjust his game to whatever is needed at the time.I agree. I LOVE the comp. He really gets after it. Loose balls are HIS! You must have players like that on your squad.Does anyone else think TY is our current version of Damonte ? He might be our MVP of the year due to his behind the scene intensity he exhibits in practice on the defensive side . Lead by example . He wonāt need to score a point if he can get the rest of the team to try to match his level of intensity on defense
Wow, never knew playing H-O-R-S-E was part of All-Star festivities.... that was fun!
Just ask yourselfSo IF Riley commits what is the plan? Are we posting hundreds of Shania Twain pictures OR are we going the āBlame Canadaā South Park gif route?

Thanks. Not a whole lot of posting up, tough shot taker & maker. That's what I have seen from Riley. This is a good one
Damonte had 3-point range. Ty doesn't have that.I LOVE the comp. He really gets after it. Loose balls are HIS! You must have players like that on your squad.
Ty does a GREAT job of using his strength to get to the basket. He needs to convert on his layups more consistently, and his free throw percentage needs to continue to improve because the physical nature of his game is going to create a lot of fouls.
I agree. The only difference is height & damonte got to a point when he would at least take & sometimes make a three pointer. Ty might not get there at this level, even though he would put a few up at Thornton. I hope that this offseason features Ty finishing around the rim & stretching out his range. I'm talking 1,500 jumpers a day.Does anyone else think TY is our current version of Damonte ? Well I was rooting for Pistol Pete that whole time because his shot selection is how I would have played HORSE.
I don't know about old. He's a month younger than Morez and 6 months younger than Catchings & JakstysRiley isn't reclassing up like your other examples.
