And we knew since the weekend ;)
I guess you can't get much higher than 100%. My question would be, does he reclassify (whatever that means) to a '24? And if he so, would he be academically eligible for Illinois? My guess is coaches and academic advisors are working this out. I sure hope so. Way back in the day, when I was in h.s. we never heard of such a thing. After you were a junior, you were a senior.

After watching more film of him, I can see why he describes himself as "positionless." His range from deep is NBA stuff and beyond off the dribble, often with a hand in his face. But his inside moves are so superb you could post him up from time to time.

Yes, the average salary for the life of the contract is. But this year alone you're seeing contracts that make 7M men, you think that will stop?

Not counting Self/Calipari/(likely)Hurley:

Oates will make 7 during this contract

Pearl will make 7 during his contract

Barnes will make just under 7 during his contract

of course we're talking averages. bonuses are great but very hard to compare, also they typically aren't considered 'salary'...
usually when a contract gets signed, the first few years are cheaper and it gets more lucrative.

All I am arguing is your OG point which was "If Brad puts together another 2nd weekend team you gotta assume his salary end up top 3 ($7-9M) no?" will not happen after next season.

First link I clicked was "oates will make 7.55 in 2030" and his salary this upcoming year is 5M so assuming about average over the 6 years would mean his "salary would be about 6.25... which is to your credit, a lot more than I thought it would be but I think Brad would have to do lot more than just make the sweet 16 to justify 7M let alone 9M...

Sorry to everyone in the chat.... Hopefully we get a BOOM soon

How have I never noticed someone covering up with a towel? Who is that? Scrawny ankles whoever it is...
Can’t figure out how to link attachment #35334, but IIRC Coleman Hawkins mentioned something about not wanting to get soaked during one of the post game free-for-alls. And, he does have rather skinny legs. 🤷‍♀️

Love Chester but, it is looking like the best recruiting he has done for Illinois this year is to leave and to take a few players with him.
How different would the final pieces to this team be without Antigua?

How about the flyin' illini? Every starter was about 6-6, still made the FF.

Little betting tip: Take the over in all our games. I expect us to be really good especially as the season moves along, but I don’t expect many 68-63 contests. 😂

Completely absurd. Dude isn’t proven.
Many things about Scheyer and Duke are absurd. Why would 3 or 4 top 10 players sign on to play for him every year? He hasn't proven a thing as a coach or developer of talent. Why does Duke get overwhelmingly favorable officiating? Why do pundits talk about what a great upset it would be for Scheyer-led Duke to beat a higher-seeded team that doesn't have nearly as much talent as Duke? And yes, why is he so highly paid?

Really enjoying reading the UK thread on Riley. They're losing it. Here's my fav comment from over there so far:

"I was a fan of the Illini when I lived there many years ago (watched Kenny Battle play for both NIU and UofI). It was the only real basketball program in the state once DePaul fell off. Was going to transfer there for the engineering program, but rode it out where I was. The Ilini fans for the most part were and maybe still are mostly delusional. Insufferable even.

Not much interest in them for that reason.

I'd root for them over most B1G programs but that's about it. They have no idea that they aren't even a blip on the radar of most programs in the country. I even forget about them and I used to be a fan. Most people in Illinois cheer for them but wouldn't approach real fandom compared to UK fans."

People say Illinois fans are notorious for bashing one another? Just perusing KU blog and it is seriously ugly with seemingly no moderation. We would be banned for posting this venom.
Wow. Once I clicked that link, I couldn’t look away. 😳

Agreed. Other coaches have proven a lot more and don’t get paid the same, as well as they don’t get top recruits

Think that’ll really depend how his HS season goes … But it’s on the table …

He’d only be coming to redshirt … Would not be playing …
Even without Riley, there's no need for him to suit up this year. Coming into your freshman year at the start of the BIG season would be a substantial challenge IMO

Just to settle the debates …

Starters:
Boswell
KJ/Ty
Riley
Humrichous
Ivisic

Bench:
Ty/KJ
Tre
Rez
DGL
Booth
Davis?

Redshirt:
Jakstys and I could potentially see Davis redshirting as well ...
I think the key to success next year is feeding all these dogs enough to keep them engaged (and not necessarily fully happy). It reminds me of Dain last year. He could probably start on a number of fringe top-25 teams (okay, maybe top 40). He wasn't very happy about his role most of the year, but Brad and his staff do a great job of keeping guys engaged with the team. Accept their roles and contribute as needed.

I really hope if someone like Tre White gets moved to a bench role, he'll see the value in playing for a top-20 team and being a big contributor--even if it's not a consistent thing. Accept the role, and he'll probably have a bigger role next season if Riley bolts after a year.

Seems the opposite to me. Riley is a SF that could definitely play shooting guard. He has good handles and his shooting is off the charts. TY is a 4 that could play PG in an emergency as he has decent court vision and handles. But he can't shoot worth a damn.
Don't you actually have to take shots beyond 5 feet to determine this? 😂

This is an incredibly important point. I am going to guess that Jakstys and possibly Davis redshirt. I hope Davis finds a role and gets a few minutes. He can REALLY shoot off the dribble and he plays hard defensively, but I just don’t know where his minutes would come.

Anyway, if Jakstys and Davis redshirt, you would have 10 guys who can all really play and contribute. To this point, Brad has routinely used an 8 man rotation. I hope that changes this season and he uses those 10 guys as much as possible. We have quality depth for the upcoming season. We need to use it and not waste that advantage. Doing that would help alleviate some of the valid concerns you allude to.

As always, jmho…

I'm not celebrating until I see a post from Riley. Been nut-punched one to many times.
I’m with you there. I won’t even LOOK at video of a guy until it is as official as it can possibly get. Hell, sometimes I’ll wait until he is LITERALLY in the lineup for game 1. I am not superstitious, but I am a little stitious.

This is the primary, secondary, and tertiary question! There is no reason to pay an unproven product so much.
