I watched Kerr in the Maui Invitational and people are delusional if they think that kid is a bad teammate and would hurt a locker room. Arizona won that tournament because of him in my opinion. Kid just has a winning attitude, kept his team composed in the last 5 minutes of games which is something Illinois clearly lacks. You hate 5 minute scoring droughts or watching other teams finish while we don’t, Kerr solves some of those problems as would any quality point guard. Only knock I saw was he tried to take a lot of mid court or trap style fouls when he tried to draw a charge.

Arizona has a basketball program and fandom that is broadly similar to ours. If we had a championship under our belt, you wouldn't even be able to tell the programs apart.

That will change if KK commits here

Also us last year
MM commits -> we can compete for a championship

Side note, are alliteration names cool or a curse?

Does this discussion regarding KK have any merit or are we just throwing it out there because the board is desperate for a PG? I feel like it's the latter.
Kerr is basically that girl (or guy) you've been pining over for years but has always been in a relationship and just broke up with her (his) alcoholic of a boyfriend (girlfriend). You now see a window of opportunity to make all your dreams comes true and live happily ever after with the girl (guy) of your dreams, but approaching her (him) now reeks of predatory behavior, neediness, and desperation, plus she (he) doesn't even know who you are.

That said, sometimes that does just enough to get the job done, or break your heart...

Peanut butter meet chocolate.

Illinois highest profile team with pg void and a large bag of NIL. Also veteran team who can compete at high level with a pg.

WVU is a mess right now, new coach and roster churn will occur. KK may not want to stay in vad situation others created.

New world - if you get $500k NIL do you care about the scholarship?

I see a lot of Krissa hate, selfish me player.. All I know is that he was a facilitating son of a !!!!! and we can kind of use of of those PG. I think Williams is fine but I worry he won't be available, way to much smoke on that side of the wall, so get Krissa for a season until Williams is good and let's roll. I think TJ and Coleman learned a lot from a leadership aspect and will keep any clown behavior in check.
I don't know if he will use it but Krissa should have his covid year

love to see Phoenix Gill blowing up a little bit.. have to think we have an inside track on his recruitment. Wonder where he settles out rankings wise?
You would have to think we get Gill if we seriously offer. It's the best possible place for him from an NIL perspective. You have a bunch of people that were fans of the flying Illini and have money to burn.

Him and his dad could probably even do a bunch of ads together.

Also it's wild to think that Frank Williams kid played 5 years for the Illini already and Gills kid is still a few years away from college.

This is a seriously orange kool-aid influenced statement. Sean Miller all by himself won 5 Pac 12 titles and went to 3 Elite 8's. Tommy Lloyd has won a Pac 12 title. Lute Olson won 11 conference titles along with his tourney success. MSU under Izzo or IU under Knight is a much better comparison to AZ than we are.

We had Jeff George's kid play football for us. Unfortunately he did not have his fathers cannon arm.

I remember when Mark Butkus (Dick's nephew) played on our 1984 Rose Bowl team.

George Montomery's son - Javelle Mcgee had a long NBA career. He played for 2 years at University of Nevada. His Wiki does not mention big George.

Historically the programs are vastly different. I am an U of A alum who watched games in Bear Down Gym that did not seat 500 until bleachers were installed for the basketball season to get to around 3000, mostly at both ends of the court. Then, over a span of a decade or more starting in the early 70s, they hired Fred Snowden, recruited Bob Elliott, and built the McKale Center. Until the team started playing there, they were not at all competitive with the Illini program. But things changed pretty quickly when Lute Olson decided to get a tan.

I know that you’re joking here, but you’d be stunned at just how many people on this board would readily accept the position that because Kerr Kriisa and Matthew Mayer have alliterations in their name that we are doomed to the same fate with KK as with MM.

Mayer was very inconsistent and didn't live up to his potential, but, Christ on a cracker, he's the scapegoat for a lot of fans. FWLIW, I think there's plenty of blame to go around.

Really interested to see which '24s are prioritized. Also, does anyone else feel that Fears may reclass to '24?

Have seen on podcast that other programs may stay away due to strong connection to Illinois. Kendall is still very much involved with UofI, the ❤️ appears to be mutual. But his son may just want to set his own path elsewhere.

I don't hate the comparison. Arizona is where we could/should be, but the two programs started going in opposite directions in 2007.

We do have a better all time win% and we have one more Final Four than they do.

But Zona has more overall wins, 9 more regular season titles, 4 more tourney appearances where they're 22(!) games above .500 (Illinois is only 8 games above. 500). And of course, they have a title.

Still, they haven't been soo much better that they're beyond comparison, imo.

I agree that there were some minor and “monster” issues with Mayer. I’d hardly blame the disappointing season on him though. He was 3rd team All Big Ten after all.

Think Addidas payments helped AZ recruiting under Miller?

Yes, but don't really care since you can do all of that above the board now. And again, if you don't think Self, K, Williams, Pitino, Izzo, etc were also paying players, then I think you're wrong.

Some of you acting like managing player personalities and parent/handler expectations is something unique to the Illini last year. Every single successful high major coach is dealing with Myers, Clark, and Epps types you just don’t realize it because they do a better job of keeping in the locker room.

Look at the transfer portal I don’t think others are doing any better or worse than us

Absolutely. And it's hard to say it wasn't worth it for AZ.

That’s a fair point but if the issues are ubiquitous as evidenced by the transfer portal than the successful teams are doing a better job preventing the issues from being visible and impacting the W/L columns.

Arizona has produced more 1st round draft picks in the 21st century than we have in our entire history.
