As a Florida State student, I disagree with the latter. FSU has been recruiting at an extremely high level in basketball, although those successes haven't translated onto the court yet. I would be surprised if they were not a tournament team this year (they almost were last year). FSU basketball is currently in a better place than Illinois basketball.

When's the last time Illinois landed a player like Dwayne Bacon or Jonathan Isaac?

They're doing pretty well recruiting shooting guards, there's no doubt about that. I just wouldn't be too worried about them when it comes to in-state guys. As expected for a top 25 kid, we'll have a ton of competition for Ayo, but the schools mentioned so far aren't the ones that are going to concern me. It just seems weird when people lose hope when good schools offer our targets. If anything we should be concerned when solid high majors don't express interest in our top targets.

It's interesting that when Ayo transferred from Westinghouse, he picked MP and not Simeon or WY.

Florida State and St. John's have offered Morgan Park 2018 PG Ayo Dosunmu since the contact period began. His blow-up is just starting.

The deluge begins. Think the only blue blood that won't get involved will be Duke since K has never gone after an Irvin player. Other than that, I think Ayo will have his pick of schools. But we can always say we were first. (And I still find it hilarious that Roy and Harv claimed the only reason we offered was to get in with Charlie Moore.)

Jabari Parker?

At Belleville West vs Belleville East
EJ Liddell (west) (Tommy Liddell's cousin I believe) - May have impressed me more than Pickett. This kid is a monster. 6'6" 230 lbs. freshman. Great hands down low AND can shoot the 3. Groce and Co. need to get out to this guy soon.

That was quick!!

Oh, well, I guess I got confused with the timeline. Got the offer on the visit, not an offer and then decided to cruise over to visit.

Not sure if it was ever mentioned, but IDKWHBI ended up committing to Seton Hall.

(Sorry, I guess that "news" is about a month old. Just hadn't seen it since Illinois wasn't recruiting him.)

When is this going to stop? Eric Gordon. Look, I typed his name and the world didn't end.

I really hope Groce has a great year this year and becomes the absolute right man for the job because his effort and dedication to recruiting is super impressive.

Learning from his mistakes.

I definitely tip my hat to him there. He may not close every recruit, but he seems to be fantastic at building great relationships with these kids and their families.

I agree, Groce is a personable guy, but is he really better at building relationships than the average high major coach? It seems like everyone likes Groce, and has nice things to say about him, but I feel like we're seeing Groce at a time where social media like Twitter is at its peak which gives us access to damn near everything we want when it comes to learning about recruits. Recruits only say positive things about coaches, visits, etc and we get to see all of that thanks to social media.

The Weber effect. By comparison, fans see a coach who connects much better with recruits and players. But I do genuinely believe he is much more likable than the average b-ball coach in the eyes of players and parents.

Just noticed that Terrence Lewis got a crystal ball for UNLV a few days ago. His other three predictions are all Illinois. He's a kid I'd really like to get - high motor, super athletic, and has a developing skill set. Composite #108, but with a good July he should be a top-75 player.

Question for recruitniks: do we think Groce would take both Lewis and Goodwin, making potentially four wings in the class (depending on how Da'monte develops)? He'd only have two scholarships left and (once again) potential weak spots at the 1 and 5. I feel like the talent would make it a no-brainer, but I know there are people who'd prefer to fill out the class with a ball handler like Trent Frazier (assuming no Scruggs) and two bigs.

Related question: if hypothetically we got commitments from Lewis and Goodwin, would you then rescind the offer to Nojel Eastern, or is he talented enough that you take him no matter what and cross your fingers that either he or Goodwin can play backup minutes at PG?

I don't think there's much of a chance that we'd get all three of Lewis, Goodwin, and Eastern, but I wonder how it would shake out if they all wanted to come.

You take all three and then recruit hard for a big. Those guys are all too talented to pass up, especially considering the current state of the program.

Again, like you, I don't see this happening. But if the stars aligned, we'd take all of these guys every day of the week and twice on Wednesdays :)

Hell yeah, you take Lewis! Absolute no brainer! Same as Goodwin.

I've always felt we're a longshot with Eastern.
