The kid got an offer from Michigan State before the end of his freshman year. If that isn't blue-blood caliber, what is?

I still wouldn't call him your pro-typical "blue blood". He's an awesome young talent, don't get me wrong. There's just always the chance he doesn't live up to the hype because he's 5'10" 150-160lbs soaking wet. Campbell squared off against Matt Coleman(stud 17/ pg) in the EYBL circuit back in April. His stat line was very impressive and offensively had a great game, and considering Coleman is a couple years older his effort was impressive...but Coleman got his. He absolutely torched Campbell off the dribble and gave him all sorts of fits with his quickness. Campbell has some work to do on the defensive end to be considered a "blue-blood" type in my eyes. Most traditional blue-blood types have the freaky athleticism/length going for them. Just my opinion.

I would be curious to know how many rising HS Frosh / Sophomores are listed as centers at this point. Which is to wonder if the reason we haven't offered many centers is because very few kids are listed as such currently but may grow into the position later on.

Edit: looks like UofIChE06 beat me to it.

Agree, many (small) high school programs are fortunate to have the tallest player listed as 6'2" or thereabouts as their center. Landing a decent 7-footer at UI would be preferable, but not likely.

Freshman year. One of the consistently best teams of the last 20 years. No Michigan State doesn't have the history of the others, but if Michigan State is offering you before you turn 16 you're blue-blood caliber.

I understand your logic here and I can't say it's flawed. However I do also like to note Tyger Campbell was old !!! dirt for a freshman. He spent some of the season as a 16 year old. Just for comparison, Malcolm Hill spent some of his senior yr of basketball as a 16 year old. Plus he had played varsity as an 8th grader as well so he understandably experienced the transition bumps and bruises then. Maybe I should have put the books down and waited for better offers because going down to U of I at 17 did me no good.

Fast rising 2018 PG Ayo Dosunmu was in the group of standout lead guards at Nike #Elite100 http://rvls.co/Elite100G

Class of 2018 standout Ayo Dosunmu won't be unranked much longer, and he's pushing to enter the rankings as a five-star prospect. He was just one of the standout point and combo guards at last weekend's Nike Elite 100.

The kid has put up some impressive numbers lately. But man, that jump shot. He can fix that right?
One would think so. It's going to take a good shooting coach and a kid who is willing to change. But bigger changes for the better have been wrought before.

We currently have four open scholarships. How many should we hold open for class of 2018?

Depends on who commits. They're not going to intentionally leave one open for 2018 if there's a guy like Tilmon, Goodwin, or John still on the board. They'll just worry about scholarship numbers later. I don't see this being an issue, I wouldn't be surprised if we get 3 more high school players and a graduate transfer.

Florida State and St. John's have offered Morgan Park 2018 PG Ayo Dosunmu since the contact period began. His blow-up is just starting.

The deluge begins. Think the only blue blood that won't get involved will be Duke since K has never gone after an Irvin player. Other than that, I think Ayo will have his pick of schools. But we can always say we were first. (And I still find it hilarious that Roy and Harv claimed the only reason we offered was to get in with Charlie Moore.)

You must of caught him on an off day because he is one of the best on ball defenders ive seen in the last 5-7 years. His defense and ball handling is top of the line...as good as it gets.

It was more the second sentence of the tweet, but no, I'm not confident in our ability to land in-state 4* players at will.

We're in trouble if we're worried about St. John's and Florida State.

As a Florida State student, I disagree with the latter. FSU has been recruiting at an extremely high level in basketball, although those successes haven't translated onto the court yet. I would be surprised if they were not a tournament team this year (they almost were last year). FSU basketball is currently in a better place than Illinois basketball.

When's the last time Illinois landed a player like Dwayne Bacon or Jonathan Isaac?
